Who will you see in Heaven?

For Christians, one of the many fantastic things about Heaven will be who you will see again and those you’ll meet for the first time.  Who am I missing on this list of those you’ll visit with throughout eternity?

  • Jesus

  • Other Christians

    • Family
    • Friends
    • People you served and prayed for
    • People who served and prayed for you
    • Biblical figures – Moses, Elijah, David, Paul, all the Apostles, Mary (all of them), people Jesus healed, the criminal on the cross, Adam, Eve, etc.)
    • Historical figures
    • Martyrs of the faith
    • Famous people – politics, sports, the arts, etc.
    • Non-famous people
    • People from around the world, from different centuries and different denominations.
    • Animals, in general, will almost certainly be there.  What about specific pets you’ve had?  I’m not sure.  (I had a cat who was demon-possessed and is probably on Satan’s lap right now.  Don’t write nasty comments about me being a cat hater, though.  I had another cat that I liked.  Though dogs are better.)

Who do you want to talk to first (after Jesus, of course)?

  1. I have always wondered about Animals but never seen a Biblical backing for that idea. In fact, many argue that only those created in His image can enter Heaven. I don’t know either way and would love to have you educate me.

  2. Hi Edge – This is brief and perhaps not bulletproof, but I still find it pretty compelling:

There were animals in the Garden of Eden, and Heaven will be all that the Garden of Eden was and more.

Animals are one of God’s greatest creations. He has made so many magnificent creatures who are enjoyable to watch, learn about and interact with.  I’m not saying they are as important as humans, but I don’t know why He wouldn’t redeem that part of creation in the New Earth.

There are several references to animals in verses about the end times. I don’t have the scriptures offhand, but one example is the verse about the lion laying down with the lamb. Maybe that is some kind of metaphor I haven’t figured out, but it sure sounds like there will be animals there but they won’t be having each other for dinner.

Having said that, even if there aren’t animals, we won’t be sitting around saying, “Well, this is kinda nice, but it would be better with animals.”

If anyone else has any thoughts or verses on this, please chime in! I am not familiar with passages that would counter this, but if I overlooked something it wouldn’t be the first time.

  3. When Jesus comes back, he’ll be on a horse! So that tells me there will be SOME animals in heaven.

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

The Bible tells us that animals have a spirit (though not a soul)(Ecclesiastes 3:21) . That spirit goes somewhere. Why not heaven – for our enjoyment?

  4. Good points! I ran into an interesting verse last night when reading Jonah for the next Bible Study Blog book. The very last verse (4:11) says, “But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?”

God obviously considers humans much more valuable than animals, but I found it interesting that God specifically mentions cattle as a reason to keep from destroying the city.

  5. I would love to meet the apostle paul, famous presidents who went to heaven and my family members who have gone on.
