I think that capital punishment (CP) is a completely Biblical proposition if properly applied and that it is actually a pro-life position. Having said that, in my next post I’ll make some arguments from a Christian worldview against capital punishment as currently administered in the U.S. But first I wanted to address some anti-CP arguments that [...]

I wanted to share this story from my sister-in-law (and Godmother to J, daughter #2), a passionate pro-life Christian and all-around great person to be around. She and my brother-in-law are raising an outstanding son who has one of the biggest hearts around. She describes something I read about once, where church groups do things for free [...]

Pastors who deny the essentials of the faith either lied at their ordination vows or changed their minds later. Either way, integrity demands that they resign their positions or be fired. For example, if a pastor doesn’t tell the world that Jesus is the only way to salvation, it is due to one or more [...]

Slice of Laodicea article on Family Watchdog – this is very important to read. There are a lot of sexual predators out there, and their site helps you know where they are.

I really appreciated this quote, because it speaks volumes about the wrong assumptions people often make when criticizing “Christianity.” For what they are criticizing is not behavior that Christ taught, but behavior that is often the opposite of what Christ taught. In addition, the ”good” things about secularism nearly always overlap with Christian principles.
Secularism looks best when [...]

I am not a big Knock-knock joke fan, but when the girls were little this was my favorite:

A Christian magazine that I really appreciate is Discipleship Journal. They perform a terrific balancing act of being non-denominational yet not being wimpy, watered down or divisive. The contributors are Bible based and have sound doctrine. They have regular columns plus a theme of the month and other articles.
This month’s theme was “Stories of Redemption.” They [...]

Jesus will judge us all on the final day. Not Buddha, not Mohammad / Allah, not Krishna. If Jesus is going to judge us all, then I’m pretty sure He is the only way to salvation. (This passage also repeats the truth that rejecting the Son means rejecting the Father).
John 5:22-23 Moreover, the Father judges [...]

These links would be rather incongruous except they both show clever parodies:
A top 10 viewing of Weird Al Yankovic’s videos (Hat tip: Poser Rantings). My favorites are Smells Like Nirvana and White and Nerdy.
Then there is a Christian group called Apologetix. They do doctrinally sound parodies of rock songs. We had fun at a church Fall Festival playing [...]

Note that this passage addresses the issue of the exclusivity of Jesus from a couple directions. John could have stopped at “He who has the Son has life” and left people to think there might be other options. But he didn’t. He explicitly stated that if you don’t have the Son you don’t have life.
1 [...]

Growing up in Ohio we mainly wrestled with millions of mosquitos and a few spiders. I really do like living in Texas, despite all the wildlife challenges:
Fire ants galore (aka Fallen Ants). When we were going through childbirth classes years ago, one of the relaxation exercises had you picturing yourself lying in the grass. I couldn’t do [...]

Mark Twain said, “It ain’t the parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.” This is one of those passages that is really, really easy to understand:
Luke 10:16 “He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he [...]

If so, consider yourself lucky. You survived the abortion movement. This country deemed that it was perfectly legal to kill you before you were born. The rest of us were protected by the law. Just FYI.

It’s a good question! I have spent a lot of time over the years thinking about this and I hope you have, too. Once I became a Christian I kept thinking about how I had rejected the Gospel for so many years - growing up with Christian parents, going to church, having a Christian wife [...]

I really appreciated this Stewardship Moment given by Becky Roberts at our Laity Sunday service last Sunday (from a Church Programs for All Seasons):
