The pro-legalized-abortion movement has more money. They have 90% plus of the media firmly and energetically behind them. They have Satan behind them. Sinful human nature won’t change. That’s the bad news.
But pro-lifers aren’t going away, and we have a few things working for us. Here are some reasons why the pro-life movement may eventually win out:
1. There will always be staunch pro-legalized-abortionists and those who profit from it that won’t give up, but the vast middle ground will shift to the pro-life side as they learn more about the nature of the unborn and see more ultrasounds.
2. More and more women will bravely come forward to tell how abortion hurt them, thus dispelling the Roe v. Wade myth that legalized abortion would be good for women. Studies are helping prove this point as well.
3. To state the obvious, pro-abortionists tend to have more abortions and less kids, while pro-lifers tend to have fewer abortions and more kids. The pro-abortionists may not abort themselves completely out of existence, but it will reduce their ranks enough to impact their influence. Consider these statistics. They reveal more than you might think at first glance.
- San Francisco – 49% more dogs than children
- Utah – 19% more children than dogs
4. Young people – even pro-choicers – realize how many potential friends and siblings were killed before birth.
5. I know that good doesn’t always triumph over evil in the short term, but it often does in the long term (see slavery).
6. Every technological advancement (e.g., 4-D ultrasounds, intra-uterine cameras) supports the pro-life cause, while none support the pro-abortion position.
7. Women will figure out that they have been lied to. Is the cornerstone of women’s rights really the right to have a stranger kill your preborn child in a (somewhat) clean place? More women will discover that single men are the biggest proponents of legalized abortion. Abortion hasn’t empowered women. It has just allowed men to shirk their responsibilities and to put more of the burden of birth control, abortion and child-rearing on women.

All good points.
Recently I got to see one of those 4-D ultrasounds, AMAZING!
As usual, an excellent post.
I will add a final one, if I may:
8. The justification for abortion is eroding. We aren’t living in an era of high maternal mortality. Birth control is all over the place, in more forms than we can count. It’s even covered by insurance; if not, people give out condoms for free. There is paid maternity leave, SCHIP for kids, Medicaid for pregnant women, mandatory rules about admitting women into ERs with active delivery, and child support mandates.
The idea that one can simply “get pregnant” without having been incredibly stupid, and, once pregnant, cannot carry her child to term, is untenable at best in the 21st century. This is not the 1950s, folks, where unplanned pregnancy meant social shame; this is not 1920, where unplanned pregnancy could mean a life-threatening delivery; this is not the 19th century, when women didn’t have a choice about when to have sex with their husbands and birth control had yet to be invented.
Oh, and, to completely take over your blog, I’ll add to #6: technology is pushing fetal viability back. We’re not talking about kids that have a 1/3d chance of dying within a year even when born.
I agree, an excellent post.
However, I don’t think people decieved by Satan will be swayed by logic. After all, if you look at all the evidence with an open mind, I don’t see how you can logically reject Christianity.
I am a pessimist in this area, but I think abortion is more likely to be stopped by the expansion of Islam than logic.
Bridget, thanks for the additions!
SST, you are right – some will never be swayed. I liked your Islam comment!
Barbara, thanks for visiting! Nice blog and beautiful photos – you are quite a photographer.
Consider this more kudos for the post.
Theo,
While birth control is covered by insurance, it is not free to those without insurance. I’m not talking about the woman who can affored insurance, but doesn’t buy it, I’m talking about a real life young woman I know who can’t get a job that provides insurance and can’t afford it on her own. She is in a non-marital relationship and I fear she will get pregnant. This would be her second child by a second man. She should be responsible or (even better) get rid of the sin in her life, but she won’t.
In this particular case, I don’t think she would abort her baby. But I don’t think you can use easy access to birth control as a reason for declining abortions.
One other factor: Satan may be the string-puller in support of widespread, commonplace legal aborton, but Satan is working dead-on against God. And we all know who wins in the end.
Amen, Christina! Thanks for the great work you do on your RealChoice blog – highlighting so much of the news that the MSM won’t publish.
Maybe they’ll be like this child (A must read article)

Randy,
Many organisations and agencies will give her free condoms. Some will also give steep discounts on the Pill.
Frankly, I don’t think that we should have to send birth control to everyone’s home mailing address before we determine that birth control is accessible.
Call me harsh, but if you aren’t responsible enough to contact people who will happily give you free condoms, you are too friggin irresponsible to be having sex. You don’t get an abortion at the end of it to excuse your ex ante irresponsible behaviour.
BTW I meant to say that was an excellent list. Well founded and well written.
Hmm, I dunno. The logical endpoint of the entire Green movement is severe population control, and surely we can all understand that the Green movement–whether you’re talking about global warming hysteria or the ever-expanding religion of “conservation”–ain’t goin anywhere. It’s more subtle than past authors of genocide, and it targets all humanity instead of just a disfavored minority, but it all leads to the same place: getting rid of as many people as possible.
And where is the evidence that women are becoming less whorish and more self-respecting, or that people in general are becoming more responsible? Sorry, folks, but open-legged young “ladies” like Randy’s friend are the rule these days.
The pro-life fight is a noble one, but we’re kidding ourselves if we think that our efforts will ever be anything other than the equivalent of spitting in the ocean: millions of abortions will continue to occur every year in this country. They will stop only when the good Lord returns and opens his keg of whoop-ass on this evil, wayward world.
Dark mood today, can ya tell?
Lewdand…
We hear this “they’re gonna do it anyway” mantra a bit too much for my tastes. Yeah, they’re gonna. So what? Quit? Give up the fight because it’s just too hard? If you believe abortion is wrong because it kills a person, and that “open-leggedness” is wrong because it leads too often to abortions, as well as the sinfullness of it, then it behooves you to continue sounding the call.
One of the biggest problems in our society is the lack of expectations. That would be the expectation of civil behavior, self discipline, purity, high moral character. We don’t really expect it of our kids if we don’t exact some form of punishment for transgressions. We don’t expect it of our society if we simply shrug our shoulders and say “they’re gonna do it anyway”. Such behavior has always taken place throughout man’s history, but not on the level it does now, and I don’t see how that can be accurately disputed. Once extra-marital sex, pre-marital sex, lost it’s taboo status, what could have been expected from the younger set? In elevating sex to a level for which it was never meant, it has become worse than “dirty” as some used to portray it. It has lead to all the sex-related troubles our society now faces. You can believe saying this means I’m frigid or unable to engage in it, but that would still not erase the truth of the matter. Our young, and many of our peers, need to understand that sex carries responsibilities and consequences. And those are that for which the act was designed.

Oh,I agree with you, Marshall Art. Pro-lifers should never give up. I just don’t think we’ll win.
And I particularly loathe the characterization of virtuous people as frigid, which happens anytime a person dares to advocate anything other than outright promiscuity. Boo.
It’s called chastity shaming, Lewd.
The progressives like to yell “Slut shaming! Slut shaming!” any time someone suggests that one prefers to not have sex on the first date; however, they are absolutely cruel and get quite personal about our own lives….
