Tactics of false teachers

Pastor DL Foster had an important post on the tactics of clerics in the gay Christian movement.  It highlights the patterns of deceptiveness used to infiltrate a church and manipulate the members before “coming out.”  Sadly, the process is quite effective.
It applies to heterosexual false teachers as well, of course.  They lie at their ordination [...]

Fundy Founding Fathers?

This article about Faith of our Fathers at Stand to Reason gives a balanced perspective to the discussion of faith and politics.
There is a canard that the Founding Fathers were predominately Deists and not Christians, but that view is not supported by the facts.  Here’s a key section:
It’s not necessary to dig through the diaries, however, [...]

Contextualists, not literalists

As I noted in a previous post, Biblical literalists is a common label thrown at Bible-believing Christians implying that they interpret every part of the Bible in a completely literal, rigid fashion.
The charge often comes from theologically liberal Christians as a handy way to dismiss the arguments of those who take the Bible seriously.  I suppose it is [...]

Christmas resources

Looking to learn more about Christmas?  Check out these resources.  Lots of good stuff on the reliability of the New Testament, the divinity of Jesus and more.
A very Merry Christmas to all of you!

Merry Christ-Mass and Happy Holy-Days!

It is irritating to have stores pretend that Christmas doesn’t exist at the same time they try to milk every last dollar out of our covetous wallets, and the whole public education / public square polical correctness thing is frustrating as well.
But if we complain too loudly it comes across as shrill.  Aren’t we supposed [...]

Joel Stein, Randy Alcorn and Heaven

I wanted to share this great post by Randy Alcorn, who is probably my favorite writer.  He writes fiction and non-fiction on a variety of topics.
He had an engaging discussion about Heaven with Joel Stein (a provocative LA Times writer and devout non-believer) that turned into a column.  Stein had written one of those Starbucks [...]

The reason for the season?  Sin.

The dangers of a zero sum world – why the Greens don’t get it.

‘Juno’: The movie pro-aborts will hate – a secular movie that sounds like it makes some excellent pro-life points.

Can Christians have doubts about God?

Could struggling and doubt over faith be good?

Hillary

Hillary posted a Christmas ad with zero religious content.  Her “presents” were things like universal pre-K and universal health care, which would take away many of our “choices.”  Two immediate thoughts: Walter Reed Memorial Hospital and the lines at the U.S. Post Office.
I usually buy gifts with my own money rather than extracting it from taxpayers.
Universal [...]

Romans 1 and natural desires / functions

In Romans 1 and temple prostitutes I addressed the myth that the homosexual sins mentioned in Romans 1 were really just about temple prostitutes.
Another argument pro-gay theologians try to use against the clear and emphatic teaching of Romans 1 is that it is only sinful when people act outside their sexual desires.  That is, if you [...]

Dawkins’ acolytes

Man, those Richard Dawkins fans are an obsessive lot (please note that I am not lumping all atheists in their category).  They were still talking about and regularly linking to my blog as I wrote this but it appears to be dying down.  I promise to get back to more productive things, but couldn’t resist a [...]

Who are the real pacifists?

Since 99% of murders are abortions, that makes pro-lifers the real pacifists (even if they are pro-capital punishment).
The pro-choice / anti-capital punishment crowd is much less than 1% pacifistic at best.
Who knew?!

Hate crimes

Just for the record:

I oppose hate
I oppose hate crimes
I oppose hate crimes legislation

Some people find item 3 to be incongruous with items 1 & 2, but it isn’t.   Hate crimes legislation is about politics, and specifically about silencing opposing views.
I am pro-1st Amendment, even for journalists who hate Christians and write things that would get [...]

Recycled heresy: Universalism

Universalism is the false teaching that everyone – and I mean everyone – goes to Heaven when they die.  Sadly, many Christians spread this heresy by wildly distorting or ignoring passages in the Bible.
This is one of those heresies that just doesn’t go away.  It is often coupled with the notion that all religious are [...]

Comments on comments

To the gaggle of atheists visiting from the Richard Dawkins site on their “raiding party” (their term): Here are a few blogging suggestions for you.
Continually calling me arrogant or smug just because I am confident in my beliefs is a bad idea on several levels.  It commits the logical fallacy of being an ad hominem argument [...]

Nutcracker wrap-up

Warning: This is one of those family posts.  Come back tomorrow for the usual sparkling (?!?!?!) religious, political and social commentary.

Nutcracker weekend is over.  The girls danced beautifully.   I never get tired of watching them dance.  I’m in the first scene as a “Party Dad” but after that I take pictures from the wings or [...]

How to witness to someone who’s gay – or someone who’s straight, for that matter – a terrific example of how to share God’s law and the solution to our problem of sin.
