Fight the Freedom of Choice Act

Go here to sign a petition to fight the Freedom of Choice Act, which, of course, ignores the other human being in the equation and denies him or her  the freedom of a choice to live.

Barack Obama promised to make the Freedom of Choice Act his top priority as President (see the video at the bottom).   He seems to be on track to keep that promise.

“We have been communicating with his transition staff” almost daily, [Cecile] Richards [Planned Parenthood President] said. “We expect to see a real change.”

From the petition website:

FOCA Would Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide
This would eradicate state and federal laws that the majority of Americans support, such as:

  • Bans on Partial Birth Abortion
  • Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion
  • Only licensed physicians can perform abortions
  • Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter’s abortion
  • FOCA would erase these laws and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future.

The media did a splendid job of hiding the fact that Obama was the most pro-abortion member of Congress and, by far, the most pro-abortion Presidential candidate ever.  If you want to influence this the time is now.  If he is going to sign this as promised then perhaps the media will have to report on it and his ghoulishness will be exposed.

partial-birth-abortionFight the Freedom of Choice Act, because the “choice” in question isn’t whether to get married, where to go to school, what career to have, whether to join a union, etc., it is whether or not to destroy innocent human beings — including those that are 90% out of the womb.  Some things shouldn’t involve a choice.

P.S. Remember, if the baby in the picture slipped out before being killed, Obama was the lone voice opposing the bill requiring her to be permitted to live.  He supported letting her being set aside to die.

AUL Actionreleased an open letter to President-Elect Obama highlighting the dangers of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and his promise to sign it.

An Open Letter to President-Elect Obama on Behalf of All Ohio Parents

Dear President-Elect Obama,

A 14-year-old girl walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic in Cincinnati, accompanied by her soccer coach, John Haller. He was 21 years old and had initiated sexual activity with the girl when she was 13. Now that she was pregnant, Haller wanted her to have an abortion.

Rather than calling the parents as required under Ohio law, Planned Parenthood called the soccer coach’s cell phone and failed to verify he was the parent.

Planned Parenthood turned a blind eye . . . and performed the abortion.Afterward, they provided the girl with a bag of condoms and a Depo-Provera shot.

Thirty-six states across the country require some form of parental notification or consent prior to an abortion involving a minor child. And these laws are supported by 80% of the American people. In addition to the obvious reason that parents need to be involved when their child undergoes a medical procedure, these laws also protect young girls from sexual abuse. Research shows high percentages of teen pregnancies are fathered by adult men and a relationship between early teen sex and coercion.

President-Elect Obama, why do you oppose these parental involvement laws that protect our children from sexual abuse?

Despite Planned Parenthood’s actions, the parents of the Cincinnati teenager found out about her abortion and the sexual abuse perpetrated by her soccer coach. Eventually John Haller was convicted of seven counts of sexual battery and served three years in prison.

President-Elect Obama, the mainstream media refuses to ask you these questions, so we will:
Why have you promised Planned Parenthood that the first piece of legislation you will sign is the Freedom of Choice Act, a piece of abortion legislation which would eliminate ALL of the common-sense parental involvement laws across the country?

Sincerely,

Charmaine Yoest, Ph.D.

  1. Hi Neil,
I signed the petition. I hope and pray that the LORD causes Obama to stumble in his plans. May the darkness of their hearts be opened to the light of the gospel.
    Blessings

  2. @Neil:

O.K., I found the Bill, and it says this:

“It is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman.”

What exactly do they mean by “viability”?

  3. Screw that, DJ. If a woman wants to choose not to have a child, she should not engage in the very activity designed by nature (for the heathens) and God (for the rest of us) for the purpose of producing offspring. People of honor do NOT insist that they can engage in procreative activity and expect that the product of that activity can be anything but another human being endowed with the unalienable right to life.

But to answer, now that I’ve calmed down from my excitement, what they mean by viability is generally the child’s ability to survive outside the womb, typically with medical assistance. It’s a very ambiguous term, meant to be so so as to leave open every window of possibility for the woman (and man) who lacks the character of facing their responsibilities.

  4. Heres my problem, I am anti-abortion, meaning that I would do whatever I could to influence someone not to have one, I just don’t know how we make the case to non-believers who don’t accept our theological position?

And honestly, that word “viability” has me concerned, that is way to vauge for my liking.

  5. I am beginning to bepersuaded, that with or without scientifc proof, Thta I may have to take a hardline in oppsition to all abortion with the exception or rape cases, because it seems like the otherside won’t be happy until they can kill children as they come out of the womb in the 9th month.

  6. Marshall is right about the definition of viability, especially regarding the ambiguousness of it. If the line keeps moving with technology, and at any point in time varies with the invidiual human being in question, the quality of health care in the area, etc. then those should be clues that it isn’t a good criterion for whether abortion should be allowed.

It is also irrelevant, because newborns can’t live without care and we (currently) don’t permit infanticide.

Viability is basically a feel good term to make the pro-aborts sound like they have some standards.

The key word in the Bill is “health.” That is inserted to invalidate everything that came before it, including the viability claim. Health can mean anything and everything, including the risk of depression for someone who wants a partial birth abortion. So the Bill is typical liberal speak. It sounds like it is making restrictions but is really saying that there are none.

  7. @ DJ,

I believe “viability” is generally determined to be 24-25 weeks gestation. I know 2 people who delivered a child at 25 weeks, which is of course very premature, but in both cases the child survived and (to my knowledge) neither have any disabilities.

I’m pretty sure a baby is considered “viable” by 24 weeks, but it could be a bit later. I’d have to look that up. Anyway, the point is that last-trimester abortions are considered a “right” by this bill. As a mother, that sickens me to think about….I remember seeing an ultrasound of one of my boys at 30 weeks, and you could see his face and chubby cheeks so clearly. It’s scary how abortion “rights” defenders don’t even see these defenseless babies as human beings.

  8. I signed the petitions. And I’m doing what small part I can do by engaging in conversation with anyone who will listed and trying to persuade them of the horible nature of abortion.

  9. Neil, wow I did not all that about the freedom of choice act. I am pro choice but also a christian . I think it needs to be changed before I would be comfortable with it , women getting abortions should definitely be informed the risk. I believe only doctors should perform them. Partial birth abortions I don’t like that at all unless it would save the life of the mother. I can say one thing as I think about these issues they are for God to decide not man. At first I was unsure about the parental consent but I have a 14 year old daughter and I would want her to talk with me before she had an abortion.

  10. I’ll add to Neil’s statement about “health.” According to the companion case to Roe v. Wade, “health” means anything and everything that a physician may deem relevant to the woman’s well-being. It need not even be diagnosable, clinical depression; just “sad” or “stressed” is sufficient. The focus is entirely on the mother’s well-being, with absolutely no countervailing considerations for the other person in the equation. That child’s unalienable right to life can be trumped by the whim of its mother and her doctor.

More than that, the restrictions on abortion are so minimal that women still have the right to kill their babies whenever they want. We have abortion on demand up until the end of the second trimester. Even restrictions on abortions, like waiting periods, mandatory counseling, and parental notification when 12-year-old girls are pregnant, are fought by the pro-abortion crowd. Sickeningly, they’ve even fought legislation in Missouri that would require abortion clinics to have hallways that are capable of accommodating a stretcher. (Theory: if a woman having an abortion has a horrible reaction and needs an ambulance, you should be able to take her out on a stretcher.) According to the MO pro-abortion groups, this is “anti-choice.” According to President-Elect Obama, this is a “restriction on abortion” that needs to be removed.

  11. Neil:

Thank you once again for keeping this issue at the forefront. I signed the petition last night.

Being “punished with a baby”. Unbelievable!

Consider me a glutton for punishment: a father of four, all from the same woman, my lovely wife.

    Best,
    Joseph

  13. I signed the petition & am letting others know how to reach it. Nearly thirty years ago i was sent home from Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia for refusing to have an abortion and was refused further medical care until Strom Thurman intervened on my behalf. I carried my daughter to term & did not die as predicted. In two weeks my daughter & her husband will present me with their 3rd child–what multitudes of blessings we would have missed!

  14. This is an unspeakable abomination (or Obamanation) to God! I’ve signed this petition and told everyone I know about it. It seems though, that the liberals will not listen to reason. They see the “choice” of a woman being taken away by all the wonderful laws President Bush has helped pass. They don’t care because it’s not happening to them and they are not strong enough in their faith to fight for what’s right anymore. This would never have happened years ago! People of faith would have stood up and wouldn’t have allowed anyone to convince them otherwise. These people are so far from God and they don’t care what happens to them on this earth or where their soul goes when they die. God is giving us sign after sign and they call it “global warming”. Even though now there are tons of records being broken for snowfall and below zero temps, they will just call that “El Nina”. I even know someone whom God has given almost every ailment possible; heart problems (that are incurable), high blood pressure, diabetes, blood clots, obesity, breathing problems (takes oxygen), trouble walking, difficulty sleeping and yet this person still doesn’t care what happens. They have given up all hope, all love and all compassion. They curse God and everyone in the world. They are extremely lost. So now I guess all we are left to do is pray and pray hard every day that God spares as many souls as possible. I pray too that he gives these people signs so great that they may finally wake from the transe they are in. God bless you all and thank you for creating this petition!!!

So, what do you think?
