You may have heard about the 23 week old baby born alive during an attempted abortion. The Associated Press article was titled Fla. doctor investigated in badly botched abortion.
Yes, a “botched” abortion. This is the only medical procedure I’m aware of where failure is defined by a human being coming out of it alive rather than dead.
If she would have stayed in the womb the baby could have been legally destroyed:
- that day
- the next week
- or the week after
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that
- or the week after that.
All the way up to week 40 — at least according to the pro-partial birth abortion folks.
But since the abortion was “botched,” it was illegal to killer her at week 23 outside the womb.
Maybe it should be illegal to kill her outside the womb and inside the womb. Just sayin’.
Then there are these crocodile tears by a pro-abortionist:
Even those who support abortion rights are concerned about the allegations.
“It really disturbed me,” said Joanne Sterner, president of the Broward County chapter of the National Organization for Women, after reviewing the administrative complaint against Renelique. “I know that there are clinics out there like this. And I hope that we can keep (women) from going to these types of clinics.”
Yes, there are clinics just like that all over. They kill innocent human beings for cash. And pro-abortionists like Sterner encourage women to go “these type of clinics” all the time to “solve” their problems. I’d love to know what follow up plans she has to keep women from going to clinics like that. I’ll wait here patiently.
Then there’s this jewel of a comment by the doctor who just lost his license.
This [performing abortions] was not part of my goals when I came to Florida, but I had to do it to survive.”
Sure. Too bad 50% of his patients didn’t survive.
P.S. While he was a legislator in Illinois, President Obama fought hard to make what happened in Tampa legal in that state. Sick.
As always, remember that forgiveness and healing are possible for those who have participated in the abortion process.
Neil I’ll share my comments from my FaceBook page on this article:
There are so many things wrong with this article it is hard to know where to begin. Perhaps here:
This is a good article for the “What is it?” question and point. While many will debate that this was infanticide instead of abortion, only because the doctor showed up late and it was born and THEN killed. But if if the “What is it?” question is answered correctly, “it is a a human life,” then why would it be fine if the doctor had been on time and killed it in the womb?
The only difference is the location of where it was killed. The hypocrisy of everyone getting upset about WHERE it was killed and not THAT it was killed is glaringly obvious.
Neil,
Great post, and I’m glad you blogged this. When I read the following part of a CNN article, my head almost exploded:
I know that abortion is traumatic, but… the entire point was to have a dead baby. What is the problem with witnessing an abortion, if that is your goal? Is her complaint that she saw it happen, rather than being knocked out? Or would she have preferred that the doctor kill it in a grisly manner, than give her a chance to hold it and say goodbye?!?
Seriously, people. While I’m glad to see this issue getting national attention, I hope that a jury gives her absolutely nothing.
Great point, Theobromophile. I agree that more attention on this would be good. What an absurd situation for her to sue about! I can’t wait to hear the defense: “But lady, you paid for a dead baby and we gave you one. How can you sue just because you accidentally saw her?”
I am afraid that due to our advanced, politically correct education system, nobody ever told this mother that this was a baby.
It is sad that we have people in that situation, but I fear that it is true. She has undoubtedly heard that it isn’t a baby until it is born.
When is a human life, human? Is it at conception? Is it at 23 weeks? Third trimester? Or when the baby is born? I sure am glad Mary did not have the problem of discerning life. Did Jesus become God at birth? Or was He God at conception? Apparantly He has always been God, therefore before and after conception He was still God. So Christians who plead the 5th on this matter need to step up to the plate and take a side. It is a life, therefore not ours to take.
The article quotes, after Williams delivered a live baby: “She came face to face with a human being,” Pennekamp said. “And that changed everything.”
The question, of course, is what was different about physically seeing the baby? This quote reminds of a scene in the movie Juno where Juno, a pregnant teen, is met by a timid classmate protesting outside of the abortion clinic that Juno had planned to schedule a termination at. Not deterred by her classmate’s arguments, Juno shrugs her off and heads towards the clinic. Just before Juno is out of earshot her classmate calls out “your baby has fingernails!”
Yes, the unborn are human beings and that changes everything. The sad thing is that it shouldn’t even get to the point where physically seeing the child facilitates such a change in heart (and in understanding).
I hate to be the one to say it, but I wish this would happen more often. I know its cruel, but maybe it will be enough to stop abortion for good.
Mizclark: isn’t that sentiment at the heart of those requirements that women see the ultrasound before choosing to abort? That if you see what is in there, that you understand that it’s not a lump of tissue or anything else, but a human being (albeit a rather small one).
In a very literal way, the “botched” abortion caused this issue to come out into the light of day.

Good point.
