Roundup

Do you back up your blog?  When I thought about how many hours I’ve put into writing posts I figured I should back this up regularly.  You never know when things could get lost or destroyed.

On WordPress, you can go to your Dashboard and select Export from the Tools menu to download a file to your PC.  It takes about a minute.

Sotomayar is empathetic?  That’s not what firefighters, dyslexics, wrongly convicted people and the unborn say.

BTW, have you noticed how no one is concerned that she is Catholic and that would bring the number of Catholics on court to 6?  (I think)  That’s because the MSM doesn’t really care about religious beliefs as long as the nominees are pro-abortion.  It is only when you are pro-life that they trot out the “separation” canard.  It is funny to watch them chastice believers for voting in line with our religious views while they completely ignore pro-abortion religious groups.

If she was a pro-life Catholic they’d be breathing fire against her and would actually research her background for dirt instead of Frank Ricci’s

Germany persecutes Christian parents for homeschooling – Got this from Wintery Knight who got it from Miss Marprelate who got it from Life Site News.  Now that’s teamwork.

That is creepy stuff from Germany, though.  I bet the teacher unions are dreaming of doing that in the U.S.

Lone Wolf Archer had a thorough review on the movie Up.  I saw it with my wife and agreed with his review.

I think Christine is right on: Many of the Palin haters do so because of Trig, her son who has Down Syndrome. From an article she quotes:

There is something about a Down syndrome child in plain view which has exposed the moral and emotional bankruptcy of the left-wing of the Democratic party. And they hate Sarah Palin because deep down, they hate themselves for being who they are.

Will they ever admit that?  Of course not.  But when their beloved abortion rights result in 80-90% of Down Syndrome being destroyed in utero for the sole reason of their having Down Syndrome, Trig is a living, breathing mockery of what they hold dear.

Ann Coulter had a good column on Palin as well and Verum Serum had a great summary of the gross media bias against her.

No proof that there’s no proof - The Pugnacious Irishman offers some good analysis and questions to ask of those who insist there is no proof of God’s existence.

  2. Thanks for the link love dawgy! Be sure to check out the comments too, they are turning out to be pretty interesting.

  3. “Ann Coulter” and “good column” are words that should never be used in close proximity to each other.

    • I know Ann has a style that grates on some, but I find it endlessly amusing how Ann’s critics never deal with her content. They think they can just write comments like yours and that’s enough. But of course, I could make that comment about virtually any liberal columnist. It would be true, but not very persuasive, so I don’t do that.

      • I agree Neil. She can be inflammatory, but she always has a point she is making. Unlike Al Franken (pre-stolen-Senatorship) or Keith Olbermann who are just plain mean-spirited.

Like her delivery or not, Ann tells it like it is.

      • Ann’s critics are just sick of her intentionally trying to inflame. She says things like the middle east should be carpet bombed and the survivors converted to Christians. She said that Canada is just lucky that the US allows it to exist.

This video shows her contempt for the views of anyone who is not American.

    Insane.

There is something about a Down syndrome child in plain view which has exposed the moral and emotional bankruptcy of the left-wing of the Democratic party

Insane with a cherry on top.

I’m one of those “libs” you like to talk about, and I think that Downs Syndrome kids are one of the most beautiful parts of our society. My own son has some of the same challenges as these kids, and I would not trade him for anything in the world.

    Those comments are disgusting.

    • No, Ryan, abortion is disgusting and insane. Killing Down Syndrome children for the sole reason of having Down Syndrome is disgusting and insane.

The comment is an accurate reflection of many pro-abortionists (though perhaps not you).

Think really hard about this (no reply necessary): My comment, or killing innocent human beings – http://www.abort73.com/index.php?/abortion/abortion_pictures/ . Really, meditate on it for about an hour, then come back and tell me what is disgusting and insane.

    • As I discussed here about our nation’s moral schizophrenia — http://4simpsons.wordpress.com/2008/06/23/moral-schizophrenia/, Jocylen Elder, former Surgeon General of the U.S. said abortion “has had an important and positive public-health effect” because it reduced “the number of children afflicted with severe defects.” She pointed out that “the number of Down Syndrome infants in Washington state in 1976 was 64 percent lower than it would have been without legal abortion.”

Yeah, I supposed you can have all sorts of public-health effects when you destroy people who need medical attention.

Now that is insane and disgusting. And she was the surgeon general!

      • You said that people hate Palin because she has a Downs Syndrome son. That is not true at all. People hate Palin because she was a terrible choice to be second in command. She lacks intellect, and ha almost no knowledge of world or even domestic affairs. Her evangelical views also played a part, I admit.

You insinuate that “the left” has a problem seeing a Downs Syndrome child in “plain view”? That is insulting.

If you have a problem with abortion, then you have a problem with all abortion for all reasons. Don’t drag special needs kids into this. They have nothing to do with it.

As for my views on abortion in cases where defects are known, I don’t think you can understand the pain and heartache of seeing your child suffer. I’m not talking about Downs Syndrome here, I’m talking about things like Spina Bifida and much much worse. There are conditions where a child might live a few weeks, or even a year in excruciating pain, and these conditions are known as early as 8 weeks. I support abortion in these cases, and encourage it. To do anything else would be cruel.

I’ve seen your abortion pictures, but I can show you much worse pictures of live babies, after birth with conditions that you would have them live with.

        • The criticisms of Palin are always so amusing when you consider that whatever is said about her, even if true, would go double or triple for Obama.

People are too quick to abort. I know people who were strongly encouraged to abort by their “trusted” doctors. They have healthy and happy kids alive today because they didn’t take that sage advice. Not every situation turns out so well, but the Dr. Nick Riviera advice of “Just to be on the safe side, we better pull the plug” should always be questioned.

          • The criticisms of Palin are always so amusing when you consider that whatever is said about her, even if true, would go double or triple for Obama.

Except Sarah Palin is barely capable of stringing together a comprehensive sentence, nevermind one of any substance.

    • Ryan, why do you even come here and comment? It seems you are offended 95% of the time, and trying to offend the other 5%.

      • As skeptics go Ryan is on the more reasoned side.

        Regards, Neil Simpson

      • Because if I commented on your site, you would ban me. Believe me I wanted to say something about your DEAD WRONG analysis of Canadian health care, but I’m pretty sure I’m not welcome.

I think that have discussions, even when they are heated, are healthy for everyone as long as everyone is being honest.

    • Ryan, if you recall back to the election, Palin received constant criticism from the liberal elite for not murdering her child.

Trig became a running joke in liberal circles, a common version of it being “Only a retard would choose to have a retard baby!”

The attacks on Palin for choosing to not murder her child were, and remain, nearly constant.

      • LCB, I watched the election coverage pretty closely, and that is the first I’ve heard of anyone saying anything like that.

Your view of liberals is highly prejudiced.

        • Here is a good summary of some of the raging internet attacks.

          http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/07/it-always-has-been-about-trig.html

If you’d like me to start link dumping about the atrocious MSM behavior in regards to Trig Palin, I’d be glad to do so.

But it’s simpler then that. CNN repeatedly questioned Trig’s parentage, even going so far as to demand to see a birth certificate. Such a potential criticism of Obama is unthinkable to a network that was rooting for him to win.

          • It depends what you think of an MSM – I include Fox in there as well, and think that most of them are just running stories that cause emotional responses, rather than news. The state of news organization is, I agree, depressing.

Trig should have been kept out of the election completely, but I think Sarah should have kept him out as well. She paraded her family about quite a bit (they all did to be honest). Politicians should be judged on their merit, not on their families.

Palin’s pride for her son Trig was the one redeeming quality, in my opinion. However, I can’t take you seriously if you really think she would have been fit to lead the country (which, if McCain won, would be a real, if not morbid, possibility). I have a huge amount of respect for McCain, but the man is not very healthy.

  6. Neil, thanks for the link! I am glad we saw Up in similar ways. I thought it was the best Pixar film yet, and that is saying a lot because I’ve enjoyed all of them.

  7. I am consistently amazed at the amount of vitrol Palin inspires in the MSM/liberals. If she were as unintelligent and ineffectual as they would have you believe, then why do they continually attack her?

You don’t spend that much negative energy on someone that is supposedly irrelevant – only those that pose a threat.

    • A Catholic blogger, Mark Shea, dedicated a whole series to the attacks on Palin. He called it “The Freakish Enemies of the Normal.”

Which is spot on. They hate her precisely because she is mostly ordinary and normal. She stands for everything that the liberal chattering class hates.

  8. As far as backups, I use WP-DB Manager plugin and have it backup the database every day.

It backs up to another directory on my web server, so it’s not incredibly secure at this moment.

But it has the ability to send the .gzip files of the DB backup to an email address, which I may end up doing.

The nice thing is, to restore from a complete failure, I’d install WordPress and the same plugin and restore from the latest gzip’ed backup and it would all be there, no sticky imports necessary.

  9. Hi Neil!

Thanks for the link to my blog in your Roundup post! You have a lot of great commenters here.

What LCB shared is truly the reality that exposes why the liberal leftists hate Sarah Palin and her entire family:

“A Catholic blogger, Mark Shea, dedicated a whole series to the attacks on Palin. He called it “The Freakish Enemies of the Normal.”

Which is spot on. They hate her precisely because she is mostly ordinary and normal. She stands for everything that the liberal chattering class hates.”

I’m going to use that “The Freakish Enemies of the Normal” quote . It’s so true!
