Remember Arapahoe!

Seriously.  While the lone shooting at Arapahoe High School was tragic, the episode must be considered in its entire context.  Once a bad guy decides to take lives, whether by guns, knives, bombs or whatever, the key is to minimize the damage and subdue the criminal.  That’s what happened here.  In a high school near Columbine and only a year after Newtown, here was a school that actually protected children by having an armed guard.  Thank God for that!

As a VP for an Internal Audit group at a large company, I constantly think in terms of detecting and preventing problems.  We know that some people may be motivated to steal, but we want them to know that the odds are against them.  We put in controls to catch them if they do steal, but more importantly, we do things to prevent them from stealing in the first place.  They either need to not steal at all or at least not steal from us.

Believe it or not, criminals operate on a sophisticated risk/reward model just like the rest of us.  They want the optimal amount of gain relative to the risk of being caught.  In the case of protecting children, having armed guards prevents problems by scaring away the cowardly bad guys and it mitigates the damage if they show up to do their evil deeds.

Sadly for the Leftists, they had to gloss over this great news as quickly as possible and suppress the truth about the shooter.  Just one more case of media bias.  That’s why we need to remember the victories of the Arapahoe model and tell as many people as possible.  The gun grabbers certainly won’t do that.  Via Karl Pierson was a pro-abortion, anti-gun, anti-war socialist Democrat:

Pierson also appears to mock Republicans on another Facebook post, writing “you republicans are so cute” and posting an image that reads: “The Republican Party: Health Care: Let ‘em Die, Climate Change: Let ‘em Die, Gun Violence: Let ‘em Die, Women’s Rights: Let ‘em Die, More War: Let ‘em Die. Is this really the side you want to be on?”

Carl Schmidt and Brendon Mendelson, both seniors at Arapahoe High, knew Pierson. They said he had political views that were “outside the mainstream,” but they did not elaborate.

That might explain why the mainstream media in general didn’t want to get into his motivations too much. Makes their own ideology look bad. It’s hard for them to report on these things accurately, isn’t it? Can’t report on the armed guard. That makes self-defense look viable. Can’t report on the socialism, because that makes Democrats look bad. Let’s just say nothing and hope people think that he was a Tea Party person. That’s journalism! Whatever fits, they print.

In fact, these shooters are almost always secularists, leftists or secular leftists. See below for past stories.

LaBarbera Slams ‘Craven’ Justice Anthony Kennedy for Striking Down DOMA Provision ‘in the Name of the Children’

Yesterday’s decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and effectively invalidating Californians’ vote to preserve marriage as between a man and a woman — continues America’s godless trajectory toward sexual and gender chaos. We have become a Profane Nation at war with our own heritage and the Judeo-Christian moral values that helped make us great.

Healthy societies discriminate against sexually immoral behavior: homosexuality, sex outside marriage, pornography, incest, etc. This benefits children and adults by using the law to reinforce stable moral boundaries and steer citizens away from destructive (sinful) behaviors. So it was stunning to read the majority decision by Justice Anthony Kennedy – a Reagan appointee – overturning DOMA’s pro-natural-marriage provision in the name of the children.

Compassion? A parable — a great illustration about who really loves the people with same-sex attraction (those who encourage them in their spiritually, physically and emotionally deadly practices or those who have the courage to speak the truth?).

Report: Top IRS Aides Visited White House 300 Times — More proof that the mainstream media died in 2008. How could this scandal of epic proportions get ignored so quickly? It is telling how many Leftists can’t see the connection.

This high number of visits occurred despite the fact that both Shulman and President Obama claimed to have no knowledge of the IRS intimidation tactics. Both also said there was no coordination between the IRS and the White House.

Officials at the IRS and President Obama still maintain that there was no coordination between the White House and the IRS, of course, but this latest revelation makes that still harder to believe.

Why no outrage over Planned Parenthood actions? If the media wasn’t so radically pro-abortion more people would know about PP’s practice of hiding statutory rape, incest and sex trafficking victims. That’s the real “war on women.” People who kill babies for a living don’t care about helping victims of sex crimes. They should be de-funded, put out of business and prosecuted.

Anal Hazing Hits High Schools — Gross, but important to note. This is tragic. I guarantee that the accessibility of p*rn and the failure of our government to do anything about it and the failure of parents to protect their kids from seeing it (you do have Internet filters or other controls in place, right?) will ensure that things like this will increase.

Hey, I agree with lots of Obama’s gun study!

1. Most gun deaths in the US are due to suicide, not violent crimes with guns or accidental shootings. This is a said statistic, but again, this goes back to mental healthcare, not guns.

“Between the years 2000-2010, firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States.” [Source]

2. Mass shootings account for a negligible amount of crime in the US. In fact, mass shootings are one of the rarest forms of violent crime in the country.

“The number of public mass shootings of the type that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School accounted for a very small fraction of all firearm-related deaths. Specifically, since 1983 there have been 78 events in which 4 or more individuals were killed by a single perpetrator in a day in the United States, resulting in 547 victims and 476 injured persons.” [Source]

3. This one is probably our favorite. The study admits that self defense is a common occurrence and happens at least as much violent crimes involving guns. This is a direct busted myth to the anti gun argument that guns are almost never used for self defense.

“Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence [...]. Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.” [Source]

4. Furthermore, on self defense, if you carry a gun and fight back against a violent assailant, you are less likely to be killed or harmed than someone who decided to fight back and employ another self defense tactic or weapon.

“Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns [...] have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.” [Source]

The study isn’t completely pro-gun, as you wouldn’t expect a truly unbiased study to be and does include some statistics and postulations theorizing different ways gun ownership could be a bad thing.

Good analysis by Stan on the term “gay Christian.”

First, the word preceding “Christian” is an adjective intended to describe the Christian in question. Inserting “gay” as a descriptive suggests that it is an apt descriptive. But how is it appropriate to describe a Christian by the sin from which he or she suffers? We don’t reference “lustful Christian” or “proud Christian” or whatever other besetting sin as a descriptive of the Christian. Why “gay”?

Guns vs. abortions

This post about Purchasing A Gun vs. Purchasing An Abortion made some excellent points about the many inconsistencies in how the Left approaches the Constitution, regulations and life issues.  Hat tip: My favorite blogger

Let’s take a look at the differences and similarities between purchasing a gun and purchasing an abortion.

Both guns and abortions are goods or services which are produced and purchased on the free market.

When a gun is purchased, there’s a 99%  chance that gun will never result in the death of a single individual. When an abortion is purchased, there is a 99% chance the abortion will result in the death of an individual.

My tax dollars aren’t used to purchase a gun for someone who can’t afford it. My tax dollars are used to purchase an abortion for a woman or a girl who can’t afford it.

You can legally use a gun to kill an attacker in self-defense, if your life is threatened. You can legally use an abortion to kill a baby for any reason, including the mother’s life being threatened by the baby.

You can get suspended from school for drawing a picture of a gun. Read here. You can get the morning after abortion pill from the school nurse.

There is a background check and a waiting period in order to purchase a gun. There is no waiting period or back ground check to purchase an abortion. For a girl under 18 there are 6 states that require at least one parents permission 24 to 48 hours before the abortion.

. . .

On the one hand the left worked to create and expand a nonexistent right, which forced their morality concerning abortion on the states and the people, and on the other hand, they want to restrict and take away a clearly stated right concerning fire arms, which would also force their morality on the states and the people.

I guess the lesson to be learned is, the left wants to force their morality on us through government coercion, rather than trying to persuade people to accept their morally superior ideas as gospel.

I encourage you to read the entire post to pick up the points about the Constitution..

Ancient Myths vs. the Bible – Does the Bible mirror the myths of other religions?  Not at all.  It is radically different at every turn.  See the link for more.

  • Cyclical time: there is a lack of definite beginning and no clear direction to reality (with no one to give it direction). The Bible speaks of history with a beginning, with progress, and with a destination.
  • Nature symbolizing the divine. The Bible specifically rejects this.
  • The significance of magic, specifically the use of ritual and/or manipulations of matter to cause predictable results in the realm of deity. This, too, is nowhere to be found in biblical religion.
  • Obsession with fertility and potency, often expressed in religious (temple-based, even) prostitution of every base description. God is not sexual, nor is the religion he revealed.
  • Polytheism: obviously not the case for biblical theism.
  • The use of images in worship: expressly forbidden in the Ten Commandments.
  • Eternity of chaotic matter: see above; not so in the Bible.
  • Low view of the gods, who are more powerful than humans but no better ethically; the Bible depicts God as perfectly holy, just, loving, and righteous.

Bill Maher: Job creator – Mugged by reality.

While discussing the latest budget proposal by Republican Representative Paul Ryan with his guests, Maher said on his show last Friday night of taxes, that rich people “actually do pay the freight in this country”:

“I just saw these statistics,” (Maher) continued, “I mean, something like 70 percent. And here in California, I just want to say liberals – you could actually lose me. It’s outrageous what we’re paying – over 50 percent. I’m willing to pay my share, but yeah, it’s ridiculous.”

For a – gasp – liberal to rail against taxes – the very backbone of the coercive government that particular crowd typically trumpets, well that’s a feeding frenzy invite to both ends of the political spectrum. What’s really noteworthy is that no matter if it was flagged as sacrilege or hoisted as truth to power, the media, bloggers, pundits and others all latched onto Maher’s phrase, “Liberals – you could actually lose me”.

Where’s Luca Brasi when you need him? – Ann Coulter points out how Republicans could win much more easily if they stuck to their principles, made a few less stupid (and easily preventable mistakes) and didn’t re-run so many losing (and loser – i.e., Sanford) candidates.

Senate Republicans Willfully and Knowingly Lie to Their Constituents – They should be replaced for not opposing the funding of Obamacare, and especially for lying about it.

Quick, Cut to a Commercial!

It is always amusing seeing these types pretending to care about the relevancy of the Catholic organization.

Epic Pro-2nd Amendment Testimony In Connecticut – I wish more people spoke out like this and that the media covered it more.

“I can’t for the life of me understand how this state can have as many gun laws on the books as it does and have members of its Legislature need to take firearms 101. And as far as what I felt were potshots taken at the NRA, they’ve done more for gun safety– they’ll do more for gun safety this weekend than this committee will do in your careers.”

Prior to Sandy Hook, Connecticut had some of the most draconian, restrictive gun laws in the nation.

“Adam Lanza commits a crime, and I’m here to gr0vel and plead for my rights and explain to you that my firearms are kept safely?” he asked rhetorically. “I keep hearing the word “solution”… you’re not going to find a solution, it doesn’t exist. You can’t find a broad brush  solution to evil.

An important point. People who want to kill will find a way. Who thought a bunch of Islamists would be able to hijack 4 planes with box cutters and do what they did? Lanza had his plan in the works for a long time. He had an intricate plan, including a 7 foot long score sheet based on the video games he played, to kill school children, because Sandy Hook was an easy target allowing the most carnage. Maybe draconian laws stop someone like Lanza from getting a gun legally. Unfortunately, he’s a criminal, and will get one elsewhere, or perhaps use a bomb. Fertilizer and diesel fuel are easy to obtain. After Tim McVeigh, were those products restricted?

After spending $1.5m to find out why lesbians are fat, now they spend $2.7 million to study lesbians who drink too much.  I could have saved them some money: People whose identify is based completely on rebellion against God’s created order are much more likely to need to anesthetize themselves against reality.

9 Things You Should Know About Duck Dynasty – I don’t watch it, but it sounds good.

1. Long before he appeared on the hit A&E series, patriarch Phil Robertson was considered the “Billy Graham of duck hunting.” His first public-speaking opportunity came in the early 1990s when he was asked to give a duck-calling seminar at the Superdome in New Orleans before a 1,000 people. After talking about duck calls and hunting, Robertson reached into his bag and pulled out his Bible. “Folks, while I’m here,” he said, “I think I’m gonna preach you a little sermon.” Afterwards, he received other opportunities to speak and preach and was soon booked years in advance to talk to churches and other organizations.

3. Although the family is often shown praying at the end of each episode, Phil Robertson says that the show’s producers are frequently uncomfortable with the family’s strong Christian faith. “They pretty much cut out most of the spiritual things,” Robertson told The Christian Chronicle. “We say them, but they just don’t run them on the show.”

They are coming for us: Gay activist introduces bill to ban speech critical of homosexuality in schools.  Yet I can still hear the drones chanting, “But ‘same-sex marriage’ won’t affect you!!!’’”  Make no mistake, they won’t rest until we are silenced.  I wonder if they will consider it “hate speech” to quote the CDC statistics that gays have HIV and Syphilis rates that are over 40 times that of straight men?

Not just public schools, but private schools, including Christian schools.

“Homosexual activists in Minnesota are pushing for a broad “Safe and Supportive Schools Act” that would outlaw speech that could interfere with a student’s ability “to participate in a safe and supportive learning environment.”  The bill is being promoted as the strongest “anti-bullying” law in the nation, but critics say it could have a chilling effect on free speech, especially in religious schools that teach Christian beliefs on sexuality.”

Randy Alcorn on Distractions, Obsessions, and Kingdom Work – How do you know when your hobbies or activities have become idols and barriers to you being a good ambassador?  This is a good reminder for all of us.  (Emphasis added)

I think what we’ve got to do is look at everything in our lives and ask, “Is this under the lordship of Christ?” Christ is to be Lord of my whole life—including my house, car, hobbies, television-watching, and whatever role sports may have in my life.

In 1 Corinthians 10:31 we’re told, “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” So with anything in my life, I have to say, “Can I do this to God’s glory?” and also “Am I actually doing this to God’s glory?”

Whether it’s fantasy football or quilting, whether it’s Facebooking or email or movie-watching—whatever it is—is this thing an instrument or a tool of God in my life that’s bringing about some good things like rest, recreation, and intellectual stimulation? Or is this thing a bad thing that is distracting me from kingdom priorities? Instead of doing this, could I be developing a relationship with my neighbor, helping someone who’s in need, spending time in God’s Word, reading a great book, or talking with my children?

So it’s not about legalism or a hard and fast rule that says, “You must do this or you must do that.” But it is about weighing and evaluating and finding a balance in our lives. . . .

Thoughts on the new Pope: The Reformation happened for a reason.  Actually, 95 of them, and they are still valid reasons to avoid the Catholic church.  I deeply respect their positions on abortion, real marriage and various other topics, and I think that many Catholics are indeed saved — but in spite of what Rome teaches on sanctification, Mary and other topics, not because of what they teach on them.

Having said that, I like the conservative stances of the new Pope, and his humility in how he lives.  It is always good to see the Leftists in full pants-wetting mode over the fact that the head of the Catholic religion actually believes what the Catholic religion teaches.  How dare the Catholic leaders ignore the desires of those who oppose everything the leaders stand for?

Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s will no longer add sugar at all. Dunkin’ is handing out fliers explaining what’s going on and have trained their workers to explain it all to customers. Some independent coffee shops have simply eliminated drinks above 16 ounces. There’s lots of confusion and angst. Starbucks is waiting for the result of the lawsuit filed against the city.

Canadian Supreme Court Ruling Has Implications for Christian Witness – coming soon to a country near you.  As always, the truth sounds like hate to those that hate the truth.

The ruling also states that suppression of “hate speech”—such as claiming that homosexual behavior is immoral—is so important that it justifies infringing on religious freedom and provides a basis for a “reasonable limit on freedom of religion and is demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.” The court also explained that truth was no defense since “Truthful statements can be presented in a manner that would meet the definition of hate speech, and not all truthful statements must be free from restriction.”

This standard is then used to justify a draconian standard of censorship: If, despite the context of the entire publication, even one phrase or sentence is found to bring the publication, as a whole, in contravention of the Code, this precludes its publication in its current form.

. . . If criticism of homosexual behavior is construed as criticism of homosexuals then a “simple reading” of the Lev. 18 and context clearly shows that the passage “could objectively be viewed as hate speech.” While Canada’s Supreme Court justices may not understand what is in the “holy text” used by Christians, homosexual rights activists certainly do—and they will expect the legal system to consistently apply the logic of the Court’s ruling.

Equally troubling is that Christian ministers who condemn homosexual behavior can be subject to hate crime prosecution. Canada’s Supreme Court has determined that speaking out against destructive homosexual behaviors could be construed as vilification of homosexuals and therefore is prohibited in most circumstances. This is a radical standard that could severely hamper Christian witness.

Although Jesus said “the truth will set you free,” in Canada speaking the same truths proclaimed in God’s Word could potentially land Christians in jail.

What should we do when we visit the sick?  Click the link for more.

In summary, then, Calvin encourages all Christians, and especially ministers, to keep several things in mind as they visit the sick.

  1. People need the gospel more than ever when they are ill.
  2. Remind the sick from the word of God that God is sovereign over their illness and has sent it for their good.
  3. If the illness is severe, comfort the sick with the sure knowledge that those who die in the Lord have nothing to fear.
  4. If the sick consider their sins to be light and trivial, teach them of the justice of God and call them to embrace the mercy of Christ.
  5. If the sick are afflicted in their consciences, help them find rest in Christ.
  6. Don’t be afraid to bring some small token of physical relief—books, flowers, balloons, games, movies, a homemade card.

Good news that someone didn’t succumb to moral schizophrenia: Surrogate Mom Given $10K to Abort “Imperfect Baby,” Rejects Offer

When it comes to babies who are diagnosed with some sort of fetal abnormality in the womb, the pressure is high from doctors, family members and society to have an abortion. That’s why approximately 90 percent of babies with Down syndrome, for example, become victims of abortion.

When a surrogacy pregnancy is involved, the pressure brought to bear is only intensified.

But one surrogate mother has rejected that pressure — and an offer of $10,000 to have an abortion. Crystal Kelley was offered $10,000 to have an abortion after ultrasounds showed the baby she was carrying for another couple had severe medical problems.

Massive Gun Roundup

No, not the Leftist kind, the news kind.

—–

It is tragic how the convergence of malice and naiveté lead to restrictions on people defending themselves against criminals and potentially against their government. The malice is from those who want to disarm you so you can be controlled more easily.  The naiveté is from those who think that utopia is possible in this life.  If you want a perfect place to live, then repent, trust in Jesus and then hurry up and die.  Otherwise, you are stuck here where you have to make trade-offs and adult decisions.  Thinking that disarming the innocent will somehow protect you from evil people is just a false sense of security they are selling you.  Do you not realize that the government is made up of the same kind of greedy, sinful people that populate the rest of society?

The ignorance of history — what has happened in other countries, plus the reasons the 2nd Amendment exists — is a big part of the problem.   And it is unlikely that is an accident, given the political views of most educators.

This can’t be right – I thought the 2nd Amendment was all about hunting . . .

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.
—Thomas Jefferson

Read more about the original purpose.  And keep in mind that these un-Constitutional proposals are a great way to take attention away from the fact they are rapidly destroying the country by borrow half of what we spend.  This can’t last, folks.

Most agree that some people shouldn’t have guns. Please restore the ability to get nuts off the street (see Guns don’t kill people, the mentally ill do). But silliness about rounds and calibers should be done away with. You need to have at least one more round than the bad guys have.

I have a few follow up questions for the Obama-prop 8 yr. olds used in the President’s press conference: Do you know what the 2nd Amendment is and why the Founding Fathers included it in the Bill of Rights?

If bad people came to your house with guns and the only way to save the lives of your family was to defend yourself with guns, would you want to have you and your family die rather than to stop the nice President from taking your guns away?

Do you think your Mom should have had the right to have you killed before you were born?  Or if you survived the abortion, should it have been legal for the doctor to just let you die?  Because Mr. Nice Guy Constitutional Scholar Won’t-Someone-Please-Think-of-the-Children President Obama not only thinks that your moms had a right to abortion, but the right to a dead baby, and he thinks that if they couldn’t have afforded to kill you that people who oppose abortion should have had to pay for it.

Now back to the President: Please tell us more about how our first task as a society is to keep our children safe.

The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.
Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Publ. Houghton Miflin, 1943, Page 403

Why are the anti-gun people so anti-women?  Don’t they want women to be able to protect themselves from rapists and abusers?  Do you think that gang-rape in India could have been prevented if someone had been armed?  That is one of millions of examples.  It isn’t that you have to carry a gun, but that the bad guys don’t know if you have a gun.  If Obama & Co. get their wishes, they’ll know we are unarmed.

Violent crime rate more than doubled in the four years after the 1997 UK gun ban.

Take a lesson from Canada: gun registries are later used to confiscate guns

What happened when Australian citizens had to turn in their guns?

An easy way to contact all your political leaders and tell them not to promote un-Constitutional laws.  Just a few clicks and they’ll know where you stand.

Five Facts to Fire at the Gun-Grabbers

1. Gun violence has been declining.
2. Despite the politically driven hype, mass shootings are not becoming more frequent.
3. Schools are safer than they were.
4. There are more guns out there, despite (or more likely, causing) the decline in gun violence.
5. “Assault weapons” bans have no effect on crime or violence.

A must-see video about how the Democrats and media “elites” mock and dismiss anyone who disagrees with them, even while ignoring that many people support these actions and that those hypocrites have armed guards at the schools of their children.

Too bad the Republicans don’t put out ads like this.

Man shoots robbery suspect to protect his 2-year-old sonWhy didn’t Obama bring this family to his press conference?  Why doesn’t the media trumpet all the self-defense stories that save lives every day?

Why doesn’t the media tell you 24×7 about the mass shootings that never were, because an armed citizen saved the day?

Here are a “few” more:

Ann Coulter lists just a few examples of guns in the hands of bystanders saving lives by stopping massacres:

—Mayan Palace Theater, San Antonio, Texas, this week: Jesus Manuel Garcia shoots at a movie theater, a police car and bystanders from the nearby China Garden restaurant; as he enters the movie theater, guns blazing, an armed off-duty cop shoots Garcia four times, stopping the attack. Total dead: Zero.

—Winnemucca, Nev., 2008: Ernesto Villagomez opens fire in a crowded restaurant; concealed carry permit-holder shoots him dead. Total dead: Two. (I’m excluding the shooters’ deaths in these examples.)

—Appalachian School of Law, 2002: Crazed immigrant shoots the dean and a professor, then begins shooting students; as he goes for more ammunition, two armed students point their guns at him, allowing a third to tackle him. Total dead: Three.

—Santee, Calif., 2001: Student begins shooting his classmates — as well as the “trained campus supervisor”; an off-duty cop who happened to be bringing his daughter to school that day points his gun at the shooter, holding him until more police arrive. Total dead: Two.

—Pearl High School, Mississippi, 1997: After shooting several people at his high school, student heads for the junior high school; assistant principal Joel Myrick retrieves a .45 pistol from his car and points it at the gunman’s head, ending the murder spree. Total dead: Two.

—Edinboro, Pa., 1998: A student shoots up a junior high school dance being held at a restaurant; restaurant owner pulls out his shotgun and stops the gunman. Total dead: One.

Here are a couple more:

—Muskegon, Michigan: From the Aug. 23, 1995, issue of the Muskegon Chronicle: “Plans to slay everyone in the Muskegon, Michigan, store and steal enough cash and jewelry to feed their ‘gnawing hunger for crack cocaine’ fell apart for a band of would-be killers after one of their victims fought back. Store owner Clare Cooper was returning behind the counter after showing three of the four conspirators some jewelry, when one of the group pulled out a gun and shot him four times in the back. Stumbling for the safety of his bullet-proof glass-encased counter, Cooper managed to grab his shotgun and fire as the suspects fled.”

—Colorado Springs, Colo.: On Dec. 9, 2007, gunman Mathew Murray, 24, launched an armed attack against the parishioners of the New Life Church that ultimately left two innocent victims dead. But the toll could have been much higher, were it not for the heroic actions of former police officer Jeanne Assam from Minnesota. In an interview she said she very nearly decided not to go to church that morning but because she saw a headline on her computer indicating that two young people were murdered and a training center for Christian missionaries about 70 miles away in the Denver suburb of Arvada, she changed her mind. Murray shot a total of five people before an armed Assam shot and killed him. There were about 7,000 people at the church at the time of the attack.

This is why mass murders virtually always occur in gun-free zones. Only the most clueless liberals don’t know this. Despite the phony tears and sanctimonious rhetoric, they could not care less about preventing mass murders. Their only objective, other than to steal our money, is to snuff out liberty.

Why do you need high-capacity magazines? – Again, you need one more round than all the bad guys after you.  And they generally don’t schedule their assaults against you and let you know how much firepower they are bringing, so you should be able to have all you like.

You definitely don’t want to have a gun if someone like this comes after you – right?  Because people like that would never harm you physically.

Great exposure of the hypocrites who “outed” lawful gun owners but don’t want to tell people that they don’t have guns (or worse yet, they actually own guns!).

And finally, the Queen of Hypocrisy, Diane Feinstein, who carried a gun herself but admits that she will disarm us all as soon as she has the votes.

“If I could’ve gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them — Mr. and Mrs. America turn ‘em all in — I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.”

The real cause of obesity in children? – a great find by the Wintery Knight.  Turns out there is plenty of healthy food available for poor people.  They just don’t eat it.  It is mainly lousy parenting and a lack of discipline that leads to bad eating.

And the conventional wisdom of drug addictions leading to crime isn’t always or even often true.  Typically the drugs come after gateway crimes and broken families.

So once again the root causes are sex outside of marriage and broken families, which our culture and government are doing much to encourage.  Liberals claim to want to cure these societal ills, but their policies are the main cause.

Negroes With Guns – great perspective by Ann Coulter.  Guess which party has worked overtime since before the Civil War to keep guns out of the hands of blacks?  You guessed it: The Democratic party.

Liberals have leapt on the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Florida to push for the repeal of “stand your ground” laws and to demand tighter gun control. (MSNBC’S Karen Finney blamed “the same people who stymied gun regulation at every point.”)

This would be like demanding more funding for the General Services Administration after seeing how its employees blew taxpayer money on a party weekend in Las Vegas.

We don’t know the facts yet, but let’s assume the conclusion MSNBC is leaping to is accurate: George Zimmerman stalked a small black child and murdered him in cold blood, just because he was black.

If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest and most august civil rights organization.

. . .

But the Klan had a few resurgences in the early and mid-20th century. Curiously, wherever the Klan became a political force, gun control laws would suddenly appear on the books.

This will give you an idea of how gun control laws worked. Following the firebombing of his house in 1956, Dr. Martin Luther King, who was, among other things, a Christian minister, applied for a gun permit, but the Alabama authorities found him unsuitable. A decade later, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.

The problem with big government: Totalitarian Do-Gooders Target Pools.  I’m all for helping disabled people, but some things are just so bizarrely counterproductive and expensive that they just aren’t worth it.  Things like this are about helping lawyers, not the disabled.

Just how far will dictatorial do-gooders and the greedy lawyers who circle them like flies push the insane Americans With Disabilities Act? Far enough to close down many swimming pools:

Owners and managers of swimming pools at hotels, city recreation centers and public parks are scrambling to install mechanical chair lifts to comply with new federal requirements that all public pools be accessible to disabled swimmers.

Some hotels fear the cost of the equipment or fines for noncompliance could put them out of business, and an industry lobbyist says others may close their pools this summer if they can’t upgrade in time…

Changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act in 2010 say pools must be upgraded with chair lifts, essentially mini cranes that move wheelchair users into the water. …

It’s a massive and expensive undertaking. The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals says its research shows that between 235,000 and 310,000 pools require the upgrade. Manufacturers estimate the lifts run $3,500 to $6,500, and installation can double those costs. Altogether, owners could face combined costs exceeding $1 billion. …

Once the requirements take effect, the Justice Department will investigate complaints and can fine businesses up to $55,000 for the first offense and double that for further violations.

The Constitution: You’re readin’ it wrong

This seemed timely given recent comments by the President and Justice Ginsburg minimizing the importance and value of our amazing Constitution.  One of the obvious things that Liberals miss is that if they don’t like what is in the Constitution they are welcome to have it changed — provided that they go through the process outlined in the document.  But that is hard work, so they just “amend” it by fiat.  They pretend that because it is old and imperfect that they can just ignore it.  Such people are unfit for public service.

Matt made an excellent point in a comment with the first item, so I thought I’d see what else people might think of.  If anyone thinks Conservatives are inconsistent on the Constitution they are welcome to offer examples, but be sure to support them with facts and logic.

Liberals think the Constitution enshrines the right of a woman to have her innocent but unwanted unborn child destroyed, but not to protect that same life with a firearm.

Liberals think the Constitution has a right to “same-sex marriage” but not a right to criticize the concept (“Haters!  Hate speech!”).

Have fun!

Once again, more guns = less crime

Hopefully the good news will spread.  See Crime rate drops in VA bars and restaurants.

Okay, even gun rights advocates have to admit that, on its face, the idea of legalizing concealed carry in places that serve alcohol sounded bad, if only at first blush.  When the state of Virginia removed the restriction on concealed carry in bars and alcohol-serving restaurants last year, critics blasted the action and predicted a wave of crime, violence, and death from drunken patrons … much like critics of carry permits predict for licensed carry anywhere, actually.  The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported yesterday that the critics managed to keep their perfect prognosticating record intact (via Gabriel Malor):

Virginia’s bars and restaurants did not turn into shooting galleries as some had feared during the first year of a new state law that allows patrons with permits to carry concealed guns into alcohol-serving businesses, a Richmond Times-Dispatch analysis found.

The number of major crimes involving firearms at bars and restaurants statewide declined 5.2 percent from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, compared with the fiscal year before the law went into effect, according to crime data compiled by Virginia State Police at the newspaper’s request.

And overall, the crimes that occurred during the law’s first year were relatively minor, and few of the incidents appeared to involve gun owners with concealed-carry permits, the analysis found.

Yea for the 2nd Amendment!

See Why The Constitution Matters: Woman Shoots, Kills Would-Be Rapist

A thug broke into a suburban Atlanta woman’s home, and attacked her at knifepoint at 6:30 a.m. while she was in the shower. A struggle ensued, during which the woman was injured. Eventually, though, she was able to get her hands on her .22, and shortly thereafter, the woman pumped 9 rounds into her assailant. He staggered outside and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Morals of the story:

  • The Second Amendment ain’t about hunting.
  • You can’t assume the police  will be there when you need them.
  • If you’re a woman and you live alone, you should buy a gun and learn how to protect yourself with it. (Actually, everyone should do this, but single women especially.)

I will never, ever vote for a candidate who would have preferred that this woman get raped (i.e. any candidate who opposes guns in the hands of law abiding citizens).

If this woman lived in Canada, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia, and much of the rest of the world, she would have had two choices:

  • Get raped at knifepoint (and probably murdered at knifepoint afterwards)
  • Get arrested and imprisoned for owning and using a handgun

This reminds me of a friend of ours who turned someone in to CPS for sexually abusing an infant.  The perpetrator correctly inferred that it was her and called with death threats and stood outside her yard in a menacing way.  I will always want to protect the right of someone like her to go get a gun that day.

I also know of someone who got death threats from a former employee who was arrested for theft.  The criminal’s threats weren’t deemed sufficiently dangerous by a judge so he wouldn’t even issue a restraining order.  I definitely want that victim to be able to get a gun if he wants.

UPDATE — Detroit: The petri dish of Liberal politics, education and unions

UPDATE: As you probably read recently, Detroit has a 47% illiteracy rate.  Forty-seven percent!

Ideas have consequences.  Please watch Steven Crowder’s analysis of Detroit and how the policies that ruined it are spreading to the rest of the country.  Democrats have had a virtual monopoly on inner city politics, education and unions for over 50 years and today’s Detroit is the result.  I think that all Liberal members of Congress should have to live there for a year — with the same un-Constitutional gun control laws they want to force on others.

I like Right Klick’s take on objective journalism:

Should they try to be “fair and balanced?” Surely. Should they present multiple viewpoints? Of course. Should they exclude their own opinions? I don’t think so.

Readers should consider the writer’s point-of-view when assessing the validity of the writing. But they can’t do that if the writer’s interpretation of the story is hidden behind a façade. So political writers should plainly state their own opinions.

Moreover, I think political writers should be prepared to provide full disclosure. Who do they plan to vote for in the next election? To which politicians have they contributed? All conflicts of interest and relevant financial relationships should be clearly identified. Follow Mika Brzezinski’s example.

Open bias is better than fake neutrality.  But that would require honesty.

Friendly reminder: Everyone will spend eternity somewhere.

Do gun-free zones prevent multiple-victim public shootings? – No!  This common sense, people.  You just need to stop and think like a bad guy for about 10 seconds.  Just because people are criminals doesn’t mean they don’t process things through a risk / reward filter.

“Contrary to public perception, Western Europe, most of whose countries have much tougher gun laws than the United States, has experienced many of the worst multiple-victim public shootings. Particularly telling, all the multiple-victim public shootings in Western Europe have occurred in places where civilians are not permitted to carry guns. The same is true in the United States: All the public shootings in which more than three people have been killed have occurred in places where civilians may not legally bring guns.”

The article has a list of MVPSs in Europe. They all occur in gun-free zones, where guns are prohibited by law.

When a government bans guns, the only people who have guns are criminals. And they know that there is no one to stop them when they open fire. That is why violent crime more than doubled in the 4 year period after the UK banned handguns.
