The importance of discernment and clear thinking

Ann Coulter makes some excellent points in Beware of Liberals Who Come in Evangelicals’ Clothing:

Any Evangelical promoting the McCain-Rubio amnesty plan has the moral framework of Planned Parenthood. Like the abortion lobby, they have boundless compassion for the people they can see, but none for those they can’t see.

One Evangelical after another told the Times that they no longer believe Americans should have control over who immigrates here on the basis of having met illegal aliens in their pews. The millions harmed by illegal immigration are left out of the equation. They don’t go to church here.

Similarly, the pro-choice crowd is brimming with compassion for girls who have gotten pregnant by accident. They’re in high school, their whole lives are ahead of them, it’s one mistake! The babies don’t count because they’re out of sight.

The Rev. David Uth, head pastor of First Baptist Orlando, said that based on “the stories out there in the pews” from illegals who “have made friends and who have become close with people here,” there was momentum in his church to “do something to address their needs.”

Mr. Uth and his parishioners will never hear stories from the thousands of Americans killed every year by illegal aliens. They won’t be sitting in the pews with those murdered and maimed in Boston last month by a conspiracy of immigrants.

They won’t hear from hospitals and school systems in border states forced into bankruptcy because they have to provide free services to illegals. They won’t chat with farmers and ranchers whose livestock and property are stolen or destroyed by illegal aliens.

It is sad to see people make un-principled decisions just because they feel sorry for someone they know.  I’ve seen countless people switch positions to directly oppose the Bible just because they know someone who is gay and they want them to be “happy.”  Or they become pro-choice because they feel sorry for a pregnant teen.  Or they oppose immigration laws because they know an illegal alien.  It is such a sad case of abandoning critical thinking skills and not thinking about the other victims and about what God says.  As Christians we should be mature, clear thinkers and not let emotions lead us to take immoral positions on these issues.

About that new hero . . .

While our culture not only accepts but applauds all sorts of deviant behavior, most people still frown on abandoning spouses or committing adultery. The exception is for gays who leave spouses and children to indulge their preferences, such as Episcopal “Bishop” Gene Robinson.  Their happiness at doing the opposite of what God commands trumps any lifetime commitments they made to their spouses, and of course the feelings and needs of their children are irrelevant.

Given that, why would anyone be surprised that most media accounts about one-point-per-game NBA player Jason Collins managed to “fake” it as a heterosexual for years and waste the youth of his former fiance’?  Via Jason Collins ‘outs’ himself, but fails to tell ex-fiancé he’s gay:

Eight years down the drain…

Basketball’s Jason Collins made headlines recently by telling the world he’s actually homosexual, but the one person he didn’t notify was his long-time ex, as reported by the New York Daily News on April 30, 2013.

The jilted Carolyn Moos claims that her former fiancé of eight years, Boston Celtics center Jason Collins, failed to notify her that he was homosexual, despite the fact that the two had been planning their nuptials for almost a decade.

Collins came out of the closet this past week-end, thusly being the only athlete in a major American sport who has publically identified himself as a homosexual.

Moos stated to the gossip network TMZ:

“It’s very emotional for me as a woman to have invested 8 years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate, and best friend in him.

This is all hard to understand.”

Benghazi? Let’s Talk About Collins Instead…

During today’s press conference, Barack Obama gushed on regarding his admiration for the Boston-based baller, saying he “couldn’t be prouder of him.”

Unlike the four Americans killed in the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Obama took time out of his busy schedule to place a telephone call Collins.

Even if he was “born that way” (another lie) then stringing his fiance’ on was reprehensible.

This guy waited to come out until it not only cost him nothing but will profit him greatly.  I’m not seeing the bravery that results in calls from the President, etc.

Oh, and Collins claims to be a Christian.  Meditate on that.  And the media ignores his “Christian” view that his behavior is acceptable yet blasts a man with the nerve to politely point out authentic biblical views.

Woe to those who call good evil and evil good.

Romans 1:26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Don’t miss Modesty Week at the Haemet blog

See The LMA/RdL Modesty Countdown: Six Days and Slutwalks at Haemet.  Long-time uber-commenter Roxanne is doing a series leading up to a radio show she’ll be doing about modest dress.  It is in response to this:

The latest anti-modesty modern folly: Slutwalks. Boston had one the other week, featuring a parade of half-naked young women who were empowered to fight the patriarchy by doing what all chauvinists wish they would do: take off more clothes.  Allegedly, the Slut Walks started because a Toronto police officer said that women should not dress like sluts in order to not be victimised.  I say “allegedly” because the police officer certainly said it, and it’s certainly a silly thing to say (although not nearly as offensive as these women think), but because this whole thing seems like an excuse to engage in the “I have sex, therefore, I’m an intellectual” mentality.  Or to protest.

Girls going around half naked to shame chauvinists?  Oh, yeah, chauvinists just hate that!  That’ll show ‘em.

Sean Hannity tackled this head-on by bringing Rebecca St. James into the studio to talk about modesty and Tamara Holder to talk about how women shouldn’t be ashamed of their bodies:

ST. JAMES: Tamara, I mean, what are women saying by dressing provocatively? I mean, I think they are saying I’m easy. I’m asking you to look at me as a sexual object rather than a woman worthy of respect. I think these women that are marching and saying I should be able to wear whatever I want –

HOLDER: There’s nothing wrong with looking like a sexual object.

ST. JAMES: OK, do they want to be treated like a sexual object all the time?

HOLDER: No, you can look attractive –

I heard Rebecca St. James just got married.  Did you ever hear her song, “Wait for me?”  Just heard it the other day and was thinking of what a great message it had.

The “women shouldn’t be ashamed of their bodies” argument seems like a false dichotomy.  You can be proud of your body without showing it to anyone and everyone.

Any guy who commits date-rape (or any kind of rape) is 100.00% responsible and should be punished to the full extent of the law.  But that doesn’t mean that certain behaviors won’t increase the odds of date-rape happening.  When you think of how many things people are cautioned to do (or not do)  in order to avoid being victims of all sorts of crimes, the previous statements should be self-evident and uncontroversial.

Here are at least 8 specific video taped promises by President Obama that health care negotiations will take place on C-SPAN.  The reality couldn’t be worse: The talks are more clandestine than ever and have been designed to keep Republicans out completely.  This is the opposite of transparency.

Also see: Most transparent administration ever to hold secret closed door meetings on health care

This is transparency in the eyes of Democrats: votes being held in the middle of the night, political bribes and favors being used to buy off hesitant politicians, and secret committees.

Moonbattiest Ravings of 2009 — these are mainstream people saying the most bizarre things.  And they are still on the air. Samples:

…the total mindless, morally bankrupt, knee-jerk, fascistic hatred — without which Michelle Malkin would just be a big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick on it.  Keith Olbermann

So the House passed the Waxman-Markey climate-change bill. In political terms, it was a remarkable achievement. But 212 representatives voted no. A handful of these no votes came from representatives who considered the bill too weak, but most rejected the bill because they rejected the whole notion that we have to do something about greenhouse gases. And as I watched the deniers make their arguments, I couldn’t help thinking that I was watching a form of treason — treason against the planet. Paul Krugman

Stan brings up some good points about Pascal’s Wager, a line of reasoning I don’t use with non-believers.

In Boston you can see the next phase of the sexual revolution — Shocking.  By which I mean, not shocking at all.  I’ve contended that it was never a slippery slope argument, it was a cliff argument.  Once you redefine marriage as “not just between one man and one woman” then how can you argue against other perversions?

Excerpt: “Adherents call it responsible non-monogamy or polyamory, and the nontraditional practice is creeping out of the closet, making gay marriage feel somewhat last decade here in Massachusetts. What literally translates to “loving many,” polyamory (or poly, for short), a term coined around 1990, refers to consensual, romantic love with more than one person.”

If you click through to Alisha’s post, she has a video of some polyamorous people explaining how polyamory meets their needs, and doesn’t hurt children. This is the next phase of “love makes a family”.

State-supported “Transgender Prom” for kids (“22 or younger”) in Boston City Hall: Your worst nightmare — this is a must read. Among other things, the official greeter identified himself as a “leather BDSM fetishist” (bondage discipline & sado-masochism).

But remember, there is no homosexual agenda.  Why do I have to keep telling you that?  This is all about us trying to run their lives, right?

The Rise of Child Abuse as a Result of Abortion — great read by Randy Alcorn.

In 1973, when abortion was first legalized, United States child abuse cases were estimated at 167,000 annually. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 903,000 children were victims of abuse during 2001, a number more than five times greater.

The increase in child abuse is even more dramatic, since the 45 million American children killed by surgical abortions (and an unknown number by chemical abortions) aren’t counted as victims of child abuse. Yet abortion is the earliest child abuse, and no other is more deadly. The argument that aborting a child prevents child abuse is true only in the same sense that killing a wife prevents wife abuse. Dead people can no longer be abused… but preventing their abuse by killing them is convoluted logic.

Why have children been abused far more since abortion was legalized? Because abortion has changed the way we think about children.

You’ll have to pardon my schadenfreude when I read about false teachers shocked that they can’t trust Obama to do the opposite of what the Bible teaches and boo-hoo-ing that he isn’t supporting Civil Rights for sexual preferences like they thought he would.  Sadly, I’m sure Obama will please the fake Christians in the end.

Great video highlighting the lies of Obama & Co. about single-payer health care.  Don’t be fooled, people.
