Turning rocks into softballs

We often let our opponents silence us by bringing up tough questions.  We need to be wise and turn those around on them.  When they throw a verbal rock at you, turn it into a softball.  And then smash it.  It doesn’t require changing the subject, you just have to properly frame the issue.

A common example is the rape exception for abortions.  Leftists — and sadly, too many who claim to be pro-life — use this reflexively to shut us up and paint us as soft on rape.  As with nearly all pro-abortion arguments, they take the focus away from the unwanted human being who gets crushed and dismembered because she is unwanted.  Here’s a simple response to use when people try that:

I’m glad you brought up the topic of rape.  If you want to consider the death penalty for the rapist I’d consider that, but why is it the first option for the innocent child?   It is a scientific fact that the unborn are human beings from fertilization.  Abortionists like Planned Parenthood help hide the crimes.  They have been caught countless times hiding statutory rape, incest (which is another form of rape) and sex trafficking.  Abortion doesn’t undo the trauma of rape or incest, it compounds it.  Rapes results in less than 1% of abortions.  Those abortions are still wrong, but for the record, would you oppose outlawing all abortions except those in the cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother?  If not, then why not admit that you are really just pro-abortion and that you use the rape card to advance your cause?  Let’s talk about the 99% of abortions that aren’t related to rape.

See how easy that was?  Feel free to copy and paste without attribution the next time this comes up on Facebook or elsewhere.  Offer your own versions in the comments section.

Here’s a more thorough response and how all politicians should be training to address that question: How pro-life apologetics–and a little common sense–could have swayed the elections.

A few gaffes – most notably by candidates Akin and Mourdock – cost the Republicans two Senate seats and possibly the White House.  But with just a little common sense and some simple pro-life arguments they could have easily turned this to our advantage.  Romney and others could have done the same thing whether the specific rape/abortion questions came up or not.

The errors resulted when the candidates tried to articulate theological concepts that can’t be distilled into sound bites and that are virtually certain to be misinterpreted by the media and voters.  If you are running for office you should be skilled at knowing what hot topic questions you’ll get and how to steer the answers to your advantage.

So when the topic of abortions in the case of rape and incest came up, they didn’t need to get theological.  They could have noted any or all of the following.  Consider how simple yet accurate these arguments are and how they would resonate with the average voter – even pro-choice voters, the majority of whom side with pro-lifers on topics like parental notification, late-term abortions and taxpayer funding of abortions.

  • Rape is an incredibly serious crime and I support punishing it to the full extent of the law.
  • Incest, in this case, isn’t about 30-something siblings who are attracted to each other, it is about innocent young girls being abused by relatives.  That means it is rape.  Here’s a perfect example.
  • Statutory rape is rape, and the most rampant kind in our society.  Planned Parenthood has been caught countless times on audio and video systematically hiding statutory rape.  If elected, I will not only fight to stop their Federal funding but I would work tirelessly to hold them accountable for their crimes of hiding these rapes. If a 28 yr. old guy is statutorily raping your 13 yr. old daughter or granddaughter then Planned Parenthood will be glad to destroy the evidence and hide the crime – funded by your tax dollars!  They have also been caught hiding sex traffickers, and the opposition to sex trafficking is one of the few issues where Democrats and Republicans have common ground.   Surely we can all agree that we don’t want our tax dollars to fund organizations that hide that crime!
  • If you want to entertain capital punishment for the rapist then we could debate that, but why would the innocent child have to suffer for the father’s crimes?  It is ascientific fact that the unborn are unique human beings from fertilization.  Go check out any embryology textbook.  Let’s put the focus on punishing the guilty rapists and those who hide their crimes.
  • If you want to understand the theology about God’s sovereignty I’d be glad to share it with you, but that is beyond the scope of this debate and would take some time to explain.  But you don’t have to be a theologian to know that rape is evil and hiding the crimes of rapists is evil.
  • Roe v Wade won’t be overturned and even if it was it wouldn’t make abortion illegal — it would just turn it over to the states.
  • Remember that the official platform of the Democrats is now pro-abortion, not pro-choice.  They want abortions without restriction — which would include partial-birth abortions (aka infanticide) — and they want pro-lifers to fund them with their taxes.  That means Democrats want more abortions, not less, and they want others to pay for them.  Obamacare is already forcing people to pay for some abortions, and it is deliberately violating religious freedoms and conscience clauses.

They could also respond by asking some of the questions the media never asks pro-abortion candidates:

1. You say you support a woman’s right to make her own reproductive choices in regards to abortion and contraception. Are there any restrictions you wouldapprove of?

2. In 2010, The Economist featured a cover storyon “the war on girls” and the growth of “gendercide” in the world – abortion based solely on the sex of the baby. Does this phenomenon pose a problem for you or do you believe in the absolute right of a woman to terminate a pregnancy because the unborn fetus is female?

3. In many states, a teenager can have an abortion without her parents’ consent or knowledge but cannot get an aspirin from the school nurse without parental authorization. Do you support any restrictions or parental notification regarding abortion access for minors?

4. If you do not believe that human life begins at conception, when do you believe it begins? At what stage of development should an unborn child have human rights?

5. Currently, when genetic testing reveals an unborn child has Down Syndrome, most women choose to abort. How do you answer the charge that this phenomenon resembles the “eugenics” movement a century ago – the slow, but deliberate “weeding out” of those our society would deem “unfit” to live?

6. Do you believe an employer should be forced to violate his or her religious conscience by providing access to abortifacient drugs and contraception to employees?

7. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. has said that “abortion is the white supremacist’s best friend,” pointing to the fact that Black and Latinos represent 25% of our population but account for 59% of all abortions. How do you respond to the charge that the majority of abortion clinics are found in inner-city areas with large numbers of minorities?

8. You describe abortion as a “tragic choice.” If abortion is not morally objectionable, then why is it tragic? Does this mean there is something about abortion that is different than other standard surgical procedures?

9. Do you believe abortion should be legal once the unborn fetus is viable – able to survive outside the womb?

10. If a pregnant woman and her unborn child are murdered, do you believe the criminal should face two counts of murder and serve a harsher sentence?

How hard would that be?  Instead, Akin, Mourdock et al answered foolishly and cost us Senate seats and possibly the presidency, and they missed an easy opportunity to educate people on the most important moral issue of our time.

Please equip yourself with basic pro-life reasoning and be prepared to share it.

Planned Bullyhood: Revisiting Planned Parenthood’s attempts to destroy the Komen Foundation

We’ve known for a long time that Planned Parenthood kills babies for a living, systematically hides statutory rape and sex trafficking, encourages kids to have all sorts of out-of-wedlock sex and pretends that it can be done without risks, and more.  But until last year we didn’t realize that this allegedly pro-women group would rather destroy a breast cancer charity than part ways amicably. How anti-women is that?

Please read Komen Insider’s New Book Exposes How Planned Parenthood Bullied It for more, and remember that they get hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds each year and that countless false teachers support PP.  It takes a special kind of evil to do what they did, but what should we expect from professional baby-killers?

Karen Handel, former Senior Vice President for the breast cancer group Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the author of a new book, Planned Bullyhood.

Hitting bookshelves tomorrow, the new book is a behind-the-scenes exposé of Planned Parenthood’s ruthless, orchestrated efforts to take down Komen in February for making a decision to revoke its funding for the abortion business.

Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines About the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle With Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the title of the tome and it will be an eye-opening experience for readers. Handel was intimately involved in the decision-making process that led to de-funding Planned Parenthood and she was excoriated by the press and pro-abortion activists for doing so.

A lead-in promotional for the book set the stage this way:

In 2011, Susan G. Komen for the Cure was growing weary of the “pink” being tarnished by its health grants to Planned Parenthood (PPH), whose many controversies were fueling backlash against Komen. They wanted to remove themselves from the pro-life/abortion debate and made what they thought was a rational, reasonable decision: seek neutral ground in the culture war by severing ties with Planned Parenthood—and in turn, eliminate a major headache while opening a new, robust fund-raising channel.

Karen Handel, the organization’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy, was tasked with identifying options to disengage. In November, the Komen management and board decided to move forward.

Komen believed that they and PPH had made a “gentle ladies” pact, agreeing to part ways amicably and acknowledging that a media firestorm was in no one’s best interest. Yet, six weeks later, PPH unleashed a media campaign so viral and so seamlessly executed that it must have been in the works for some time. PPH attacked Komen against the backdrop of the Obama administration’s clash with the Catholic Church over contraception. After just three days, following hysterical cries that “Komen was abandoning women,” Komen capitulated and reversed course. Handel—a lifelong pro-life Republican who was raised Catholic—was immediately made the target. She resigned within days of Komen’s reversal. Liberals called her a right-wing Trojan horse. The pro-life community hailed her as a hero. She insists she is neither.

. . .

Because Komen’s staff and employees were spending an extraordinary amount of time responding to complaints about its grants given to Planned Parenthood –  “pass through” grants that were supposedly intended for breast cancer screening and education but merely had the abortion giant refer women to other agencies — Komen made the decision to halt funding. Citing the fact that Planned Parenthood only provided manual exams and referred patients elsewhere when mammograms were indicated, Komen said it would not fund future pass-through grants to the abortion agency.

. . .

“Although Komen had given Planned Parenthood millions of dollars over a period of two decades, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards was furious,” Malec recalls. “She spent the next six weeks quietly organizing a brutal political attack on her former friends at Komen.”

With the media, top Democrats in Congress, and other pro-abortion groups standing by their side, Planned Parenthood attacked Komen so heavily that, after three days of being battered by liberals and the media, Komen’s founder, Nancy Goodman Brinker, as Malec describes it, “wilted under pressure and capitulated to her tormenters.”

. . .

Today, Komen funds Planned Parenthood — despite the fact that abortion is linked to breast cancer and that carrying a pregnancy to term, especially at an earlier age, helps reduce the breast cancer risk.

“Komen’s grants directed to Planned Parenthood represent a conflict of interest for the breast cancer group,” Malec says. “According to medical texts and medical authorities, accepted risk factors for breast cancer include childlessness, small family size, delaying a first full term pregnancy, and little or no breastfeeding. Planned Parenthood sells women abortions, abortifacient drugs and contraceptives – all of which cause women to forfeit the protective effect of full term pregnancy.”

Happy Independence Day!

Anyone who thinks this will stop at mere gov’t recognition of “same-sex marriage” is naive or part of the problem. The next step will be to force military chaplains to officiate these unions or to quit. Obama & Co. win all around: Force people to violate their religious convictions, chase Bible-believers from the chaplaincy and make less believers want to enlist.

This article summed it up well — Religious freedom’s drip by drip death. The end point of liberalism is a coercive secular state in which the religious have no meaningful rights. American church leaders are kidding themselves if they think the gay-marriage juggernaut is going to stop at civil marriage. It won’t. It will quickly travel past court houses to churches, demanding that all religions bless gay marriages.Denmark casts a shadow of this future, where the gay-marriage juggernaut has smashed through church doors. Last year the country’s parliament passed a law requiring all Lutheran churches to conduct gay marriage ceremonies. “I think it’s very important to give all members of the church the possibility to get married,” said Manu Sareen, Denmark’s minister for gender equality. Reluctant bishops have to supply ministers to satisfy the right whether they like it or not.

Book: Pope John Paul II self-flagellated to get closer to Jesus — another example of lousy theology. If you want to fast, donate money, etc. that is fine. But there is no call in the Bible to physically hurt yourself to get closer to Jesus. That’s just creepy.

Pope John Paul II used to beat himself with a belt and sleep on a bare floor to bring himself closer to Christ, a book published Wednesday says.

The late pope had a particular belt for self-flagellation and brought it with him to his summer residence, according to the book, “Why he is a Saint: The True story of John Paul II.”

“As some members of his own entourage were able to hear with their own ears, both in Poland and in the Vatican, Karol Wojtyla flagellated himself,” the book says, using the name the pope was given at birth.

“In the closet, among the cloaks, a particular pant-belt hung from a hook, which he utilized as a whip and one which he always had brought to Castel Gandolfo,” the book says.

Catholic Advocate Michael Voris Video on Vatican ‘Gay Lobby’ — Yes, lots of actively gay priests that infiltrated the Catholic hierarchy. And yes, most of the sexual abuse of young people was by homosexual priests. The media forgot to tell you that. To state the obvious, these priests are unfaithful to their religion. And so are the heterosexuals who knowingly let them stay in their positions. This is one good thing about the Interwebs: It helps uncover things that would be otherwise hidden.

The Face of Cowardice: Theresa May

Meet the hideous creature who banned Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer from England: British Home Secretary Theresa May, a disgrace to her office, to her nation and to every British citizen who ever lived. On June 25, this deplorable stain on the reputation of a once honorable people “personally directed that [Geller] should be excluded from the United Kingdom” because it is believed that Geller would “foment or justify terrorist violence . . . provoke others to terrorist acts . . . foster hatred,” etc. Robert Spencer writes of the ban:

We had planned to lay a wreath at a memorial to British soldier Lee Rigby, who was beheaded by Islamic jihadists on a Woolwich street on May 22. But it is not conducive to the public good in Britain to oppose jihad violence and Islamic supremacism.

British schoolgirls are being systematically gang-raped by Muslims andBritish soldiers are being hacked to death in the street by Muslims and yet this despicable gutless appeaser, Theresa May, thinks the way to solve the problem is to ban critics of Islam?

Neville Chamberlain was a heroic statesman by comparison.

EXPOSING THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN PLANNED PARENTHOOD, THE NATIONAL ABORTION FEDERATION AND MEN WHO SEXUALLY ABUSE UNDERAGE GIRLS — It is very well documented. Planned Parenthood aggressively and systematically hides crimes of rape, incest and sex trafficking — and all with your generous tax dollar. It is the real war on women.

Atheists Aren’t Any Better At Being Atheist Than Religious People Being Religious — a series of quotes by famous atheists that tip their hands at the lack of careful thinking on the most important matters of life.

Richard Dawkins: “We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.”

Atheists love to say this. It will be written down in the Atheist’s book of parables someday if they ever get one. What Dawkins may not realize is that only the Christian God is specifically revealed to be eternal. Ancient Jews believed God was eternal, whereas even modern scientists (up until the 70′s) all believed the universe was infinite. Now we realize it is finite and had a starting point. All Roman and Greek gods are finite, and never said to be eternal.

Dawkin’s quip is one of the many foolish things he has said.  Using his logic, being a bachelor is nearly identical to being a married man.  After all, the married man isn’t married to 3,499,999,999 women and the bachelor isn’t married to 3,500,00,000 women.

Ricky Gervais: “Wow. No God. If mum had lied to me about God, had she also lied to me about Santa?

Gervais’ comment (and others I’ve read about how his mom couldn’t answer simple questions about God) shows the importance of knowing the Bible and answering basic questions that kids have. When those claiming the name of Christ get defensive and/or are woefully uninformed about the faith they often give horrible answers to kids or convey a “just believe” attitude.

The Gospel Coalition interviews Stephen C. Meyer on the Cambrian explosion — things just keep getting worse for Darwinists.

Have the last century of fossil discoveries resolved or aggravated Darwin’s doubt?

Fossil discoveries since Darwin’s time have only made the Cambrian explosion problem worse for his theory.

Darwin believed that the fossil record was woefully incomplete, and he predicted that the problem of abrupt appearance of animals in the Cambrian would be alleviated by future discoveries.

But the opposite happened. . . .

So as more and more fossils have been discovered, we’ve found the same pattern over and over around the world: diverse types of animals appear abruptly in the Cambrian, without clear evolutionary precursors. This has accentuated the “dilemma” that Darwin faced.

So the progress of science is making the problem worse for Darwinists. The more discoveries we make, the tougher the problem becomes for them, and the effect looks like the result of intelligent action.

I’ve already ordered my copy of Darwin’s Doubt at the reduced price. Have you? And don’t forget that Dr. Meyer’s first book, the ground-breakingSignature in the Cell, can also be obtained. That was the best book on intelligent design out there, but people who have read Darwin’s Doubt are telling me that it will be far better. It seems unbelievable.

Louisiana Democrat after calling Obamacare opponents racist: “I didn’t call anyone racist” — So she’s a liar and a racist.  The simplest comeback to the race-baiters is simply to ask if they think that conservatives would have been supportive of Hillary if she had been responsible for Obamacare, Fast and Furious, IRS abuses, Benghazi (oops — bad example!), EPA abuses, massive unemployment, massive increases in food stamp and “disability” rolls and more.

Yet pro-life blacks are the ones labeled Uncle Toms’s by the Left.

Plan B pills available to 15 year old kids? This has enormous implications.

Once again, the illusion of consequence-free sex trumps parental rights, medical risks and more.

President Obama, Planned Parenthood and the rest of the radical Left are in favor of all children having unrestricted access to the “Plan B morning-after pill,” though for now the limit is 15 because one judge picked that age.  But what if another judge says it is 14, or 10?  Elections matter, and this is what you get when you stay at home or don’t understand the worldviews of those you are voting for.

Not only is this terribly dangerous for the children, but it aggressively usurps parental rights.  They are saying that as a parent you have no right to know if your kids are having sex or taking powerful drugs.  If it is legal for 15 yr. old children to buy them over the counter, why won’t adults buy be able to buy them and give them to kids in schools?

Like so many other birth control methods, this will give a false sense of security and increase pregnancies, abortions, diseases and emotional damage.

In nearly every other area of life and health 15 yr. olds are treated as not having the ability to make important decisions: Voting, alcohol, smoking, military service, whether to go to school, whether to take Advil at school without parental consent, drive, get tattoos, curfews and more. Yet the Left wants this powerful drug available to your daughters and sons and grandchildren.

I’m waiting for statutory rapists and pedophiles to use this and similar Leftist actions as a blanket defense. If 15 yr. old girls are mature enough to consent to sex with those 17 or younger and to purchase strong medicines by themselves, what is morally significant about their partners being 18 or over?  “But your honor, the State considers the 15 yr. old to be mature enough to consent to sex with a 17 yr. old and to buy these powerful drugs.  Why isn’t she mature enough to consent to sex with an 18 yr. old, or a 21 yr. old, or a 31 yr. old?”

And note that sales aren’t limited to girls.  Just think about all the guys who will buy these pills and use them as part of their seduction schemes. “Just take this pill tomorrow and there will be no consequences” — right?!

Worse yet, many of the extremists don’t want an age limit at all.  And in a sense they’ve already achieved their goal.  Since 15 yr. old children can’t drive they typically don’t have identification, so pharmacies will ultimately have to take their word for it.

The Tragedy of the Dumb Church — anti-intellectualism is a huge problem in churches.  The author’s example of churches ignoring apologetics for adults and youth is the same thing I’ve seen at most churches.

More great undercover videos from Lila Rose — She busted Planned Parenthood a few times.  Now she nails other abortionists for admitting what they’d do with babies who survived “botched abortions” (as someone on Facebook noted, is there a more bizarre term than that?  I mean, they are saying, “We tried to kill this defenseless baby and she survived.  What now?!”).

My only internal conflict is that abortions in the womb — whether early or not — are just as evil as infanticide.  These Gosnell et al ghouls seem worse but pro-choices will just dismiss them as being extreme.

Five Tactics for Cheap, Healthy Eating — some good, simple advice.

The Thing About Sex — great article on the biblical perspective.

From an evolutionary perspective sex is little more than a means of spreading genes, of ensuring survival from one generation to the next. From a pornographic perspective, the meaning of sex is physical gratification so that a person’s worth extends no farther than her (or his) ability to satisfy another person’s cravings. From a romantic comedy perspective, sex is a component of an exploratory phase of a relationship and one that precedes expressions of love and loyalty. These are ubiquitous, powerful messages that compete with truth.

A Christian perspective on sex could hardly stand in sharper contrast. There we see that sex belongs to marriage and that marriage has been created by God for a very specific purpose. Before it is anything else, marriage is a picture, a metaphor, of the relationship of Christ and his church. Within that picture, that representation of Christ and his church, we have sex. Sex is a necessary component of marriage so that a couple desiring to live in obedience to the Bible will regularly have sex together (see 1 Corinthians 7:1-5). And here is where we come to your concern. . . .

This is where a Christian understanding of sex is so much better and greater than the alternatives. It heightens the purpose and importance of sex by celebrating all that sex is and all that it is meant to be, for it is here that the physical, the emotional and the spiritual come together in the most powerful way. Literally: the most powerful way. There is nothing in the human experience that brings these three together in such dramatic fashion and this is exactly why sex is reserved for the marriage bed. God wants marriage to be a unique kind of relationship and nothing marks marriage’s uniqueness more than sex.

You Say, This Is History’s Darkest Hour? G. Campbell Morgan Says, Oh, Be Quiet! — Good reminder by Randy Alcorn.  As bad as things seem, in light of history not much has changed.  We have the message of true hope for a world that desperately needs it — just like it always has.

Kermit Gosnell is not an exception.  That’s one of the reasons why the media is suppressing his story.  Relatively speaking, he was more compassionate than this abortionist — Abortion Doctor: I Would Leave Babies to Die Born Alive After Abortion.  At least Gosnell killed them quickly.

Syrup of Ipecac substitute of the week: Barack Obama to largest abortion provider Planned Parenthood: God Bless You — We shouldn’t be surprised when drivers of unrestricted, taxpayer-funded baby killing blasphemously invoke God’s name to try and sanitize their beliefs. Oddly, he never mentioned Kermit Gosnell during his talk.

Who would have guessed this?  Having female prison guards in male prisons leads to rape, pregnancies and abuse.  Sadly, because of political correctness the leaders must pretend the solution isn’t obvious.  Therefore, they’ll spend a lot of time and money trying to fix the problem with things they know won’t work.  The prison where I do some ministry has female guards.  It always struck me as a combustible situation, and here’ s proof that it is.

Why is DHS stockpiling so much ammo? – Probably an unbelievably wasteful attempt to drive up prices.  Yeah, let’s borrow more money from China during the sequester to throw away like this, while we cancel White House tours and deliberately make air travel less bearable.
